787 Fleet Technical Instructor job
Does anyone have any information regarding the United Fleet Technical Instructor job? I applied and am curious what people think of this job. It doesn't pay great, but seems interesting.

You up for the challenge? Apply for all the fleets. Knowing someone there certainly helps. Good luck! |
Be careful if you want to use the FTI job as an in for a line slot. UAL has been slow to let go of FTI's. Just an observation. No hard facts. My info may also be dated.

Yeah, a good percentage of FTIs, that I’ve seen, are non rated retired military (i.e. they have another source of income). Dedicated and smart mofos. They’ll build you a 787 with balsa wood and a Swiss Army knife!

Thanks for all the info. You pretty much explained my position F15andMD11.

Many of the FTIs have been retired or medically disqualified line pilots, either from UAL or another airline, some mechanics also, although fewer of those in recent years.

I have an upcoming interview for one of these positions. Simply stated as "Wide Body Fleet", which they have since further narrowed to 756 or 777.
Any info would be appreciated. But, I do understand the pay is low. Not industry standard at all and that would be a deal breaker for me. So, there's that... |

What is “industry standard” for a ground instructor job these days? Sounds like you answered your own question already though. Do these jobs pay what flight safety and simcom pay?(whatever that is)?
I have no idea about FlightSafety or Simcom or CAE or any of the corporate/contract outfits. And yeah, if what I have heard about the pay at United is correct, it's a deal breaker. But I'll see what I hear from them in a few days vs. hearsay on the street. |
