EFF that! When I was a commuter geek plenty of Capt's carried and used the list to deny the JS when a scab showed up. Now I use my phone to check. If he doesn't look, I consider it my obligation to look and to inform the Cap when a BFing scab wants to ride. This really isn't that hard. Playing nice when you don't know is one thing, turning a blind eye when you do is inexcusable.

Wow.

Not challenging your observations, but that doesn't sound like the United I know. Sorry to stereo type but perhaps you are working with predominantly previous CAL types??

Back when I was an FO I can't recall a single Captain that would allow one on the JS. Unless I was flying with a scab that is.....

I guess at the end of the day I can only speak for myself. From what I've written you know how I treat scabs. I've never had an FO be anything but appreciative and happy that I don't allow them to ride.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I’m just saying I’ve never seen it happen.

I’ve flown with mostly CAL. But there are a good number of LUAL guys who’ve come over to my fleet. Never seen it from them either.

It’s your call but if you do kick a scab off expect a call from your CP and pro standards. If you call him a Scab, Human Resources May get involved. I prefer to leave them on and subtly harass them in a passive aggressive manner that can’t be used against me. But again totally your call.

They call that creating a hostile workplace and it can result in time off without pay. I know that we have a right to free speech, but when we accept employment at a company, it comes with conditions. The folks in HR wouldn’t look at calling someone a scab any different than using a racial or sexist slur. It usually never gets that far, but if it does you could pay a price. There was a captain who got very vocal and confrontational with another pilot (not a scab) for not wearing an ALPA pin. He was turned into HR and told that wearing the pin was optional, to keep his opinion to himself, and that he was getting a couple weeks off without pay to come up with a way to control his anger. If the scab only goes as far as the CP or standards you’ll only get a phone call. If they buck it up to HR, you could be looking at time off, or worse. Not saying that I like it, but that is how it will go down if you deny a scab just because they’re a scab and they press the issue. Its no different in the eyes of HR to deny someone the jumpseat because they’re a scab than it would be to deny them for the color of their skin, sexual orientation, gender,..... It’s 2018 and the hyper sensitive PC crowd is in charge at the top.

I'm SFO 777 FO and I've never seen any L-UA CA deny a scab the JS. In fact, I've had the same scab 787 CA HNL commuter in the js with multiple L-UA CA's in the left seat. I told them both that this js'er was a scab. Neither denied the JS. It was quiet for sure, no small talk but there was never any indication that they were going to deny.

Did it between EWR & BOS with an infamous CAL scab not too long ago. Had flown with the D-Bag years back and he tried to pretend like he didn't recognize me. He asked for the Jumpseat, told him it was unavailable. He asked why and I simply told him it was unavailable. No call from anyone later and by his reaction, I could tell that it wasn't his first rodeo on being tossed.

Biggest A-Hole I ever had the displeasure to fly with. Beware the Karma.

The jumpseat denials work in the other direction as well. I spent the night in IAD a couple years back trying to get home when a scab denied me a jumpseat on my commute. I was not happy say the least. The point is politicizing the jumpseat does affect others at times.

I am curious though if any of you keyboard warriors commute, do you take other flights if a scab is the Captain? I actually base my commute on the list when I can and avoid if at all possible.
