Denver was pretty awesome up until a few years ago. Now it’s busy, extremely expensive, and the dynamic is changing with all of the transplants moving in. Absolutely forget skiing on the weekends, unless you’re ok with spending five hours in a a car. Mountain biking and hiking on the front range is excellent, but there are also a lot of idiots trashing the trails with garbage, dog poop bags, and bad trail etiquette.

Finally, unless you’re willing to live way out in Aurora (which sucks), be prepared to spend well over $500k for a starter home. If you want to live somewhere cool like Golden, you’ll spend WAY more and probably be in a bidding war with someone.

I personally couldn’t wait to get out, and sold my house this fall.

So you gave up living on the boat with that alligator? Do pastel leisure suits work well down there?

Salt Water boating will always be more exciting to me....lake boating not so much. Screw Conroe! Texas has a lot to offer, I am sorry it took me so long to figure that out!

Most of my neighbors work for NASA or SWA....good schools, beach is 20 miles away....no complaints or "regrets"

I moved from Florida and DO NOT MISS THE COMMUTE!

I’m on a temporary assignment in Asia. I’ll be coming back to the US in a couple of years, most likely to somewhere in Idaho.

I grew up in golden. All my family is there. And everything you said about Colorado is spot on. I-70 going into the mountains on a Friday is grid lock and same coming back on the weekend. But people want to live there so they’ll pay the price.

I don’t work at United...but grew up in Aurora (yeah it does suck). I lived in a Denver 16 years ago and now live in Highlands Ranch. I feel the same way and am investigating possible moves. HR is ridiculously expensive now, and we’ve even had periods of time in the last few years where home buyers offered above asking price (not a normal thing in CO). I do ski weekends but have access to a cabin, so that helps. If I didn’t have that...I’d have already moved. The writing is on the wall.

However, for the OP, Texas will be heading the same way as Colorado...I give it 15 years max.

How long would it take a new hire to be able to bid into IAH?
