Nz-lax-lhr

Saw an ad on this site for Air New Zealand flights LAX-LHR. I knew they were flying NZ-LAX-LHR as a Second Freedom flight, but didn't think they were allowed to board pax in LAX. Are there any other carriers allowed to do similar flights?

Singapore does LAX-NRT and LAX-ICN that I believe are under the same rights. Korean used to operate LAX-GRU as well.

Not sure if AF still does PPT-LAX-CDG.

They do along with Air Tahiti operating LAX-CDG.

I can't answer your question directly, but we used to fly LAX-AUK-MEL-AUK-LAX on the -400, and we were always full, so we must have been picking up passengers in AUK and MEL. The legs between AUK and MEL were also usually max ZFW, so we had to be picking up revenue cargo also.

You aren’t allowed to Carry PAX domestically. So QF LAX-JFK cannot carry LAX originating PAX. Intl they can do what ever they want. Just like the UA and DL hubs in NRT used to do.

Short answer, A LOT of airlines do this all over the globe. As MoP pointed out.

Also note that Air NZ operates a joint venture with UAL on top of all the typical Star Alliance code-shares.

I would be interested to know if the LHR route is included in the JV.

There are multiple airlines/city pairs that have this right in the US. This is fifth freedom rights, as they can embark and disembark passengers at stopover cities. Here's an article on the subject (I don't know how old it is):

Not that I can see. I checked 21 Feb LAX-LHR. ANZ 002 departs at 410P.
United only has one nonstop listed UA923 departing at 530P. If it were a codeshare, the Air New Zealand flight would have a UA number assigned to it and be bookable on United.com.
