First application was back in the 1999-2000 time frame as a regional F/O with approximately 4,500 hours total time.

Went on mil leave and didn't update the application until the 2003-2004 time frame. Had applications in with both UAL and Continental. Have kept applications up to date and active since then.

Went to the Veteran's Day job fair in 2016. Got a Hogan invite in October 2017, bombed it. When I was eligible to retake it 12 months later, I was deployed. When I returned from deployment this past February, I updated the application and received a Hogan invite two weeks later. After completing it, I got the face to face invite two days later. Interview dates were two weeks out from that point.

So apply, keep updating, don't give up, and have one or two professional consulting companies do a resume/application review. I can personally recommend Cage Consulting.

Good luck!

Glad you got a second shot!

Thank you! No one is more stoked than my family and I.

I have a lot of friends at United (some of whom are prior Continental) and they all love it there. Have a friend who I did IOE for at my current company who left about a year ago to get some 121 time, and is now in class at UAL...he says it is better than I can possibly imagine.

I can't wait to get back to TK and start Indoc!

Aviation management.

When you applied (or how long since) is completely irrelevant!

Every app is scored based on the secret formula that UA has. When they want to interview 20 applicants, the computer spits out the next 20 names!

Historically they had separate piles, but I don't think they have those now, or at least they aren't under any court order to do so. But even if they do have separate piles, I guarantee one of them is not "who applied the longest ago."

Apply and then update as frequently as you can. Nobody knows what specifically goes into the secret formula, but more flying, more aircraft types, more PIC, a 4 year degree, more instructor/management positions, recommendations, more this, more that, and more of the other thing will all get you more points.

How many for each thing I don't know, but keep flying and keep updating and then someday (hopefully sooner rather than later) UA will let you know when the secret formula has spit out your name.

Update application monthly. Be a member of a professional aviation organization (e.g., AOPA) and include in application. Get recommendations from people who have flown with you. Get professional interview prep. Know what you needed to know to earn an ATP certificate... UA is currently vetting all applications on file to invite 500 pilots for Sep 2019 in-person visit. Be one of them; bring your game-face and you could get an interview.

How valuable are the CPPs offered by certain regionals?
Is getting your application looked at the largest hurdle?

I’m sitting at 5500 TT, 4500 TSIC (Part 121), 1000 PIC, zero blemishes, letters of recommendation, company volunteering, 4yr degree. I have done a CP meet & greet. My Achille’s is lack of TPIC & that’s where I’m headed next; looking over multiple offers of DEC to remedy.

Keep up the hope. They will call you the day after you turn 65. I can assure you.

By update are we just talking about resubmitting with new hours? Any other updates that might appeall to these people?
