But to keep this on track, the OP discussion was about what “taking issue with the captain staying... nothing about “holding the FO hostage” as you so dramatically claim.

If you’re the FO and want to take issue you can go on and play with yourself at the curb while waiting the extra few minutes to depart, or Uber and claim an expense. Call the CPO and whine to her, or Pro Stans, I’m sure most captains wouldn’t care.

Just be sure and advise the captain at the start of the trip that you are one of those “really important “ people for whom the world turns.
Post the reference in the FOM that says captains have authority over the crew (specifically the FO) after a flight is completed.

Do the words “all about me” mean anything to you?

And as a PS, the OP’s whole point was that he wanted to get to his short layover and the Captain delayed it but keep spouting off nonsense if it suits you, (c)aptain.

I wonder if a better indicator of whether a pilot "says goodbye" is if the pilot enjoys it or not as opposed to a customer service motive or the perceived value of overnight time. Not that the motive matters, but explaining human behavior is usually a little more nuanced. The human brain always tries to rational behavior in order to protect the host from what might be uncomfortable realizations.

Jesus, have any of you heard the phrase "let's not make this job any harder than it needs to be"?

This guy, though, you're cool:

Either way, we are in the same vehicle to the overnight hotel no matter who is the last one to the top of the jetway. This whole conversation should have been over on the first page. I think the company needs to change the tie to pink to move everyone’s attention somewhere else.

Well at least there is one person that likes flying with you. I suspect that’s the only person you have any concern for also..

Man I know. The spirit of my original post was not to denigrate any captains who waited. I really don’t mind captains staying to greet our pax. But after a long day, late night, short overnight made shorter, maybe we should hit the jetway and get as much rest as possible for the next day. There will be plenty more opportunities to greet our passengers.

I’m impartial. I really don’t mind if the CA stays behind to say goodbye. I get it. I however, would rather not. As long as he/she lets me pass and head up the bridge, I’d much rather wait up top. I have this “bubble” that I like to keep around me. There’s much more room in the terminal.

Start another thread titled “The Sky is Blue.” Within 3 posts it will be about “(C)aptains” and “(c)aptains.”
