New Contract

What do UAL pilots want to see in the new contract? Or maybe a better question would be what you think is attainable? I apologize of this has been discussed in a previous thread.

We don’t negotiate in public, our mec speaks for us at the negotiating table.

This.

The MEC surveyed the pilot group before negotiations started, analyzed the data, and used it to establish our goals.

For the new pilots that were not here at the time, contact your rep.

There will be no contract, but on your death bed you will receive total consciousness!

Understood, won’t ask anymore. I’m holding a CJO and not sure how any of this works.

Welcome to United! Go to an LEC meeting, call your reps, and ask your fellow pilots a boatload of questions when you're here.

Welcome to the machine. You will most likely be off of probation and eligible to vote on the next contract. Get through training, keep your nose clean while on probation, and enjoy a pretty good ride. There will be plenty of time to think about union and contract stuff when you get to the line.

Thou shall not make future decisions based on rumor. Sorry, eventually we'll have a new contract. We'll get one when our MEC and NC get a beneficial TA for our pilot group. Whenever that is! We're in no rush!!!

I did notice a few things of interest in reading the Delta MEC Chairman's update...

1. They have scope violations. I believe 22 in total.

2. They are about to start section 6.

I was surprised to see that Delta was having issues with their scope language and Management violations of it. I recall the Continental Scope language was very tight. CAL management tried to violate it a few times, I think 3. All 3 times they got hammered pretty quick. Hope we get some really good and bullet proof scope language in our next contract.

CAL scope was very tight, right until we did a code share with United. No need to add any Asia flying or Australia etc because United was doing it all for us with 747s.

So we can scope clause all we want, but then we give away that flying in a code share and nobody blinks.

I want an 84 hour guarantee, and I will only work on Wednesdays. But not EVERY Wednesday!

Are there any plans for the NC to put out an update on the status of negotiations each week? That would be most informative to help the pilots stay informed and preclude them from having so many phone calls to reps. 12,000 phone calls a week to a handful of reps might get to be a bit much.

Talked to P2P guys a few days ago, according to them the NC is supposed to be putting out an update soon.

Five bucks the update says, "make yourselves comfortable".

If United is the only Legacy option at the table, take it. You can always consider leaving if you get another CJO elsewhere. Since you’ve got a CJO, If you’ve got multiple go with the company that has the locations you like and then contact you like, today.

How much does a paint job cost? How many planes will be painted at mainline and express?

That was the feeling I walked away with. Every day after the amenable just makes the size of our retro check for a yes vote get more expensive.

If they have money to rebrand the airline (livery, airport signage, uniforms, silverware, etc) they have money to fund an industry leading CBA.

Horse trading in this environment is ludicrous.

Grumble,

No offense but when have we EVER received full value for retro on any of our post amendable, previous contracts? We've always settled for pennies on the dollar with weak-kneed signing bonuses and our management team knows full well it'll happen again.

No offense...but this is the first contract negotiated by the two parties. UAL ALPA vs the company. The last contract was a 3 way negotiation and the two that were negotiating with the company did not have aligned goals.

Add to that, pilots have recently been getting retro checks as opposed to just a signing bonus. So the retro has been re-released into our lexicon. Having said all that, right now there is no motivation for us or the Company to get a deal done. We’re not going cave on scope, so they will be reluctant to give us anything that we want. Just my $0.02...

I would argue against that part of your statement. Daily and continued intentional abuse of the reserve system and short calls. This won't get fixed until we have a contract. Lots of other parts of the contract--still from the bankruptcy black mail, that we very much need fixing. The vacation credit per day anyone? Underwater on PTC for vacation, trip trading system? I can go on. It is in our best interests to get the contract done.

The RJ thing will eventually force the company to the table. Delta continues to kick our corporate asses here. Putting 50 seats on a 70 seat RJ will right fix the ASM costs...

So, I would posit that it is in both our interests to get it done sooner than later. My enthusiasm to be a happy motivated employee seems to be waning.

But are we willing to pay for reserve language that will most likely be marginally better for giving away our scope??? As I’ve said before many times. I will personally vote no on any TA that contains ANY relaxation in scope. I won’t even read past Section One. Automatic no!!!

I do realize that's the case but can you point to any of CAL's or UAL's former after expiration date contracts where either one of our carriers actually got full retro reimbursement?

I certainly can't and our track record speaks for itself.

Perhaps the rush to get the first contract done at any cost is partially to blame for many of those legitimate shortcomings.
