Default Family Non-rev question

My son graduates college May 11th and wants to head to Copenhagen and work his way south for 6-9 weeks. It looks like we fly to Toronto and Air Canada then goes to Copenhagen. The 20% off fares are reasonable for a round trip, but the one way fares are twice as much. He's not quite sure of his return date, and he's not sure he would be returning from Copenhagen anyhow. There does not seem to be an option to non-rev. Anyone out there smarter on this than I am?

Yeah he should non rev to somewhere like AMS or TXL and then train or European low cost carrier to Denmark.

Then finish his trip somewhere in the south that UA flies to... ATH, FCO, BCN... something like that.

This suggestion could be sending the guy into a potential non rev blood bath at those stations in the summer.

With the SAS strike, Copenhagen is gonna get TOUGH here for awhile... Could he start south and work his way back towards Copenhagen later?

I guess it depends on how non-rev savvy this guys kid is... and how flexible he can be for the return.

Never returning from Copenhagen sounds good.

You can do ZED tickets on Air Canada. My Wife and two kids did it last summer from ORD-YYZ visited Toronto and Niagra, YYZ-YUL more touring around and then YUL-ORD. Worked great.
If you go that route you can buy ZED coach fare tickets or ZED business fare tickets. The ZED coach aren't "eligible" for upgrade. Doesn't mean you won't get it, but you may not and you may see a plane leave without you with empty business seats
