Vacancy 1911V is up.

Some wide body Capt bids and some F/O wide body and new hire narrow body bids. Nothing earth shattering.

Fairly small, especially considering the past few bids.

From the ALPA System Schedule Committee update yesterday:

A significant ramp up in transition training for the fall and winter season begins in September. This will result in a series of vacancies similar to last year although planned to be larger in scope. The Company's Crew Resources Manpower Planning group will release Vacancy Bid 19-11V soon to target September transition training. However, due to the number of pilots still needing transition training from 19-05V, 19-07V, 19-09V and anticipated New Hire/Furlough Returns, this first vacancy will be small.

The Company has indicated this Vacancy Bid is the first of what will most likely be monthly vacancy bids, continuing over the next 6 to 8 months in preparation for summer 2020.

After this first vacancy, each subsequent vacancy will target a specific month for transition training to meet manpower needs while respecting TK capacity, and the vacancies should be larger in scope than last year. This targeted monthly plan process is directly tied to the effective date for each vacancy, which should provide a good estimate of when pilots can expect to be assigned training.

It sounds like the cumulative vacancies will be large, but the company is gonna spread them out instead of cramming them into a single GOAB (Godzilla of All Bids).

UAL is gonna be VERY busy hiring pilots (~100/mo) to support this training burst. Three classes of 30 are already planned for August, for example.

Fingers crossed it all happens.

from the other vacancy thread

passing on from a friend, someone please confirm

EWR 777 CA 3
IAH 777 CA 3
SFO 777 CA 6
GUM 737 CA 2

DCA 777 FO 4
EWR 777 FO 6
IAH 777 FO 6
SFO 777 FO 10
SFO 756 FO 30
GUM 737 FO 5
SFO 737 FO 60
SFO 320 FO 30

now the question is:

SFO 777 FO under a year?
Most junior upgrade time?

Do you work for UAL or are you exploring the future possibilities?

If you work for UAL you can check the Crew Resources list to see what the most Jr. pilot is in each category.

exploring/facilitating discussion....
I meant more along the line of predictions for the result of this vacancy. Ie- I remember seeing in the threads SFO777 FO was the junior wide body position and it was around 1.5 yrs recently. Does anyone think people under 1 year will hold it on this vacancy? How low do you think the upgrade time will drop to on this vacancy?

Big Perm 06-22-2019 10:31 AM

I don't see it dropping on this vacancy....not very many slots available. A vacancy this fall is a different story.

Good questions.

I don't know the answer, but based on past vacancies it will go less junior during a series of vacancy bids over several months than a single MOAB vacancy.
