Default Route to Alternate Airports in Europe

Hi all,

Looking for a little help from the 121 world for us 91 operators.

The subject of filing routes to alternate airports has come up in recent GA SAFA inspections in Europe. One of the inspectors wrote up as a CAT2 finding that the operator did not include a STAR on their routing to the alternate, instead only having a SID. I think I would have asked for routing from the end point of the missed, to an intermediate point on a STAR.

Annex 6 says you need to file the expected routing, saying nothing specific about SIDs and STARS. I get that filing direct from destination airport to the alternate airport isn't legit, but filing a SID out of your destination airport just seems a bit odd to me.

If you could provide an example of how your dispatchers are filing the routing to your alternates, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.
