Yes...there were people bailing out of their cars, grabbing their bags and running up the sidewalks. We got to KCM at departure time and walked onto a fully loaded airplane that was a good 95 degrees inside.

Classic. You can walk it (something we should not be doing) in 26 min.

The ..."95 degrees inside" comment could take up a new thread of posts. It's a complete systemic failure which is thrown into our laps upon arrival.

It was interesting because the APU was running with the packs switched off...they could of at least been comfortable. The FO jokingly asked if we should sprint up the sidewalk. I said I would nominate him for a Bravo Award but wouldnt be joining him.

The min numbers on this last vacancy bid had nothing to do with the planned size of the base. They artificially had low mins, across almost all fleets and seats, in order to not backfill. It was a very targeted bid for specific fleets, and for creating unfilled vacancies for new hires.

And the base continues to shrink, the min use to be 40.

Yes! I can confirm this; been in a similar situation and almost missed a DHD. UAL is the last stop on the bus and traffic is a $&!t show.

Traffic at LAX is impossible lately. Just have hotel van/Uber drop you off at the Hyatt and walk in. I like to have them drop me at the buss stop under the overpass... 5~8 min to term 7 KCM depending on pace. Maybe faster to term 1.

That said, LA has been a great base. Also, covering the satellite airports has not been too bad. The extra pay you get for crosstown airport still covers Uber... if your UA

FWIW....

The “small” vacancy bid for UAL that just closed awarded SFO 777 FO under 2.5 yrs. Assuming our yuuuuge vacancies come to fruition this fall you can expect that number to significantly drop, as well as NB SFO Captain. I anticipate being able to hold NB Capt by the end of the year and I’m a 04/17 hire.

Cabin temps at that level are FSAP worthy.

How is it ok for the gate agent and FA’s to board passengers onto a hot jet when the pilots haven’t even arrived?

Are our teammates not trained to be more assertive and ask ops or anyone else in their wheelhouse to cool off the jet?

Are pilots really the only people capable of turning on the APU and cooling it properly?
