Default Personal Leave of Absence

Just curious about the ground rules on them. Has anyone ever asked for one and why? How did the CPO treat it? I could use one for about a 9 month period for a different line of work but am unsure how its normally treated.

Leaves are normally shorter in length...think like 3-4 weeks at a time. I dont think the longer ones are very common when we are in expansion mode.

I would like a leave of absence until I can hold the base I want....and maybe even off reserve. They’ll go for that.....right? Right??

I've flown with a couple of Captains that took leaves of absence. I think the most they will allow for personal reasons is 36 months. Military leave can be a longer period. One guy thought he could make more money as an insurance agent. Another guy wanted to fly the Life Flight helicopters to car crashes. Both were gone under the previous contract, during the lost decade. Both came back because the time and money was greener on this side of the fence.

Start with the CPO. As long as you are not on probation, it shouldn't be a problem to ask.
