That makes it worse for a Jr guy. Those guys will be trying to take your RJ jumpseat. Be at gate 1+01 prior to departure. First come first served for RJs.
It is very hard to leave NW FL, I know. Guard/Reserve duty will help reduce the number of monthly commutes.

Look at the vacancy bid thread with the list of what they just advertised. Movement to IAH or ORD is glacial!

Hopefully it will change with all the movement that is coming, but right now it is painful to be junior in ORD or IAH and even more painful to be in a different domicile trying to get in.

Yes for IAH 1.3-2 years to hold it (737 or 320) 2-4 years to get off RSV 5-15 years for good QOL bidding. 756 will need 5-10 years. 777/787 20+ years

Yeah that is a good point. I will definitely be competing for those seats. As far as leaving, it's more family ties that keep me here (kids, in laws, spouse employment) than the locale. I'd be happy living anywhere. And no guard/reserve for me. I am in the check of the month club and don't get to put that uniform on again ever!

I lasted just a month with a double leg commute. Did it maybe 4 times. Bought a house and moved.

Been two-legging it for a regional for awhile now. Hard to see that United would be worse!

Good point.

Another option to consider is to plan and budget for paid discount tickets, if even occasionally for significant family events.

You still need two flights (on any airline) for the commuter policy, but it is nice to walk up to an oversold flight with zero stress when you have big plans.

Or go big. I flew with a guy recently that has Gold status on UAL because he buys a ticket every time using the UAL discount. The guy realized that he was not gonna move anytime soon, his only stress was commuting, he could save hotel costs, and even at several thousand dollars per year it was still a fraction of his household income.
