Assuming you are talking about United, senior guys definitely can use all of their vacation in round one. Someone with 5 weeks total can use 3 weeks in a row, and 2 weeks in a row, in round one, as an example. If you’re talking about another airline, my apologies for the confusion.

Ok, same situation as OP, but I am moving to Long Island (pronounced Ston-Guylan), NY because family (smother-in-lahr. There, I said it). I am prepared to pay ALL the taxes, deal with the traffic, and all the other ancillary benefits associated with living in that little slice of paradise...
Is a 2 hour train ride from LI to EWR sustainable? Does anyone have experience with that commute? What about circumnavigating the city by auto? Or should I forego that adventure and fly DAL mostly out of LGA and JFK? I like both companies. I am mostly concerned with QOL (ironic, I know, moving to NY, but once again, it's for the family). From what I can gather as of now (prior to classing up), it seems like seniority prospects for me are better over the next 30 years at UAL. Thanks! |

The NYC domicile covers EWR and LGA. 737 and 320 have trips in LGA. |

As said above . There are some that live in Long Island and do the commute . I would say all of them drive . There is no special route that is better that others . Depends on time of day . Otherwise you can go via train but it’s a bit of a pain . Long Island to Jamaica station then Long Island RailRoad to Penn station then New Jersey transit to EWR airport . Doable but I wouldn’t say it’s done often .
Otherwise bid 737/320 and you can focus on LGA trips mostly , which many people don’t want , On the Airbus they tend to be much more efficient than EWR . Or just wait till the Jetblue Merger and you can fly out of JFK. 🙄👌😬 |
UAL and DAL and Long Island
UAL: easy drive to LGA for narrow body or painful drive/bus/subway to EWR for NB and WB stuff
DAL: easy drive to LGA for NB or easy drive to JFK for NB/WB stuff. Sit reserve in your house for either LGA or JFK. |
Doesn’t DAL 717 guys have to cover EWR as well ? I know the Md-80 use too

It was just over 6 years ago (September 2013). I still hear about it almost every week, and knowing the guy one number junior to me had 7 years more longevity doesn’t help me recover the 13% seniority I lost. Oh well, we move on.
