Look on the bright side....

The new Purple uniform will likely be sidelined for a year.

Edit. Having been through that myself more than once in my 40 year career, I can sympathize.

As a senior WB captain with less than a year I would consider leaving early if the company came up with a viable plan. However with all the political wrangling that goes on in ALPA, I’m doubtful they could get an agreement any time soon...especially with the contract open.

It's called CORE 4. And yes, they could have done the right thing for one class so they aren't screwed personally and for their families. If they get laid off in 2 months, at least they have a guaranteed job to come back to and have bought two months of time to get Plan B going. It's people like you, that need to go with your unsympathetic "well it's happened to everybody" or "You need to earn your gray hairs" attitude.

And, what's the cutoff you ask? Well, anything outside the two week window of resignations. So, it would have affected only one group of people. Like you said, "CAn't believe i have to explain this to people". In this case YOU

You must have me confused with someone else. I am sympathetic having gone thru this very thing myself. You’re making a big deal about the way the industry is and always has been. If it’s that important to you, take a management job and work your way up to a position where you have the authority to change things. As for right now, why not write a letter to the senior VP of OPS and tell him what you think of his actions.

Or maybe you could be a hero with your own money, instead of someone else’s and start/contribute to a welfare fund just for that class. It’s a thing now with the internet you know. Post a link right here and let’s see the money follow the lips.

I can’t imagine the entitlement scream that comes from you when the next furlough starts.

Could they have let them start the first day, get employee numbers, then go home. At least they would be on the seniority list. Probably too many other implications with benefits enrollments and such.

There are winners during this completely unfounded apocalyptic mass hysteria. Just wish it would trickle down to the NB fleet. Specifically the 320 in ORD.

True. There are always winners and losers. I don’t envy their luck. It’s the manipulators that drive me nuts.

Your class date with a third-rate supplemental carrier was cancelled. Big deal. Apples and oranges in a huge way.

I’ve never thought about praying for not working. But I wouldn’t just pray for no work but also with pay.

I would imagine a company of this size image would rather anyone who is considered an “employee”, be fully trained in company policies etc....as in basic indoc.

I’m glad they haven’t cancelled any classes already in operation. You gotta think that discussion was taking place on Friday when they made the decision on where to draw the line.

When it comes to being employed or not..really no difference.

Anyway Seaboard was the second largest Cargo Line in the country, after Flying Tigers . They operated a fleet of 747’a and DC-8’s. A new hire with SB skipped the panel and went directly to F/O, at higher pay, unlike all the other majors, many of which did not operate 747’s.

The class before me have been WB captains at FEDEX for nearly two decades now, as a result of mergers, with Tigers and Fedex.

You’re in good company though with IATA that believe cargo carriers are a lesser class...... and don’t deserve the same level of safety as passenger carriers.

I have confidence this company will do the right thing with this class.

Did FedEx cancel new hire classes after 9/11?

I do agree with the person who mentioned CORE 4. If they truly believe in that philosophy, it would be a two way street. Like someone else said, the LEAST they could’ve done is allowed them to start so that they at least have a seniority number and recall rights. Or if you actually believe that they want them to know company policies, they could have them go home after Indoc. It’s reasonable, as someone else answered you, to draw the line at two weeks since that is the customary notice given when resigning.

If they actually believed it, it wouldn’t be about entitlement. It would be about the first C in CORE4.

BMEP100 03-01-2020 02:21 PM

It’s a little early to cast judgements on this, as the decision to cancel the class was just two days ago. The VP flight ops is calling them. Let’s see what they set up.
