Don't mean any trouble but no one gave me any insight in 2001 or 2007. I'll leave you guys alone. Believe it or not I was just trying to give a way to plan absent intuition. Again, my apologies.

Apologies for what? You ran some numbers and shared the results. If you’re not the real deal, you’ve sure got me fooled. In the end, I hope your pilots required numbers are low and you’re still happy with your decision to leave the industry. Fair winds and following seas.

Thanks for leaving.

I would hate my life if I had to be a teacher. Tenure or not.....what a bore.

It may come as a shock, but many, many people think being an airline pilot is completely boring.

Way to keep it classy and mature. 👍

My family appreciates that I have a really good job for pay and benefits, but they have all said how much they would hate it. Irregular hours, multiple time zones, living out of a suitcase, one hotel after another, trapped in a little box with the cruise control on for hours trying to stay awake isn’t that appealing to them. I’m still interested in aviation and the industry, but I really don’t miss flying, I just really wish my absence wasn’t due to what’s going on. Months off is great, but definitely not at the expense of what this is doing to the economy or our industry.

You want to know what a bore is? Sitting in cruise for 5 hours next to a pilot that has no interests outside of airplanes, complains about his ex-wife, nothing seems to make him happy, has poor social skills and yet still wants to meet up for dinner or drinks on our layover in Newark. Nothing is more satisfying than sitting there quietly eating my possibly spoiled crew meal, staring out the window wondering what my wife and kids are up to, realizing it’s only leg one of a 4 day trip all while watching the clock sloooooowly click a minute away. What a rush this job can be!

disclaimer, this is the rare experience for me and I genuinely really enjoy my trips and guys I fly with. But there are those times like above when all the enjoyment of the job comes to a halt when your fellow pilot just hates life.

Let me guess....wears his work pants/shoes to the restaurant with his knockoff Tommy Bahama shirt from China, first question is “do you have any specials?” and dissects the bill because “he didn’t have any bread.” Close?

With what's ahead for many of us, as well as myself...you have no idea how much I'd prefer that over the alternative at the moment...
