The Thai King’s dog and girlfriend are both Air Force Generals, so it must be a pilot friendly locale...

-correction: Fufu the dog died in 2015 as the “Air Chief Marshal”. And the gf only got her Major General job title back today after a yearlong banishment. Truth stranger than fiction.

Well it seems that Jake Cefolia is almost following Mark Sanford’s footsteps... well not literally, of course.

The Sanford thing was just a big misunderstanding due to poor cell phone reception.

I spent a lot of time in search and rescue in a past life. This is a classic scenario for committing suicide.

It is unclear what steps he took to ensure financial resources while on the lamb. If he did not make those types of arrangements, suicide seems more likely. Delaying the death certificate does increase the hardship on his survivors.

ELMHURST, IL — The last person to see Jake Cefolia, the missing airline executive from Elmhurst, was his son, Elmhurst police say. His son, who left his father's house the evening of Aug. 6, reported his father was extremely drunk.

Afterward, Cefolia, vice president of worldwide sales for United Airlines, did not answer calls or texts from family. So his ex-wife, Kristine Cefolia, became worried and checked Cefolia's house Aug. 8, police said. His car was not there. A note from Cefolia's co-worker was on the front door. She then alerted police, according to a report.

On Wednesday night, Elmhurst Patch obtained the police report on the 49-year-old Cefolia's disappearance. The police revealed to Patch last week that Cefolia had been under criminal investigation before he went missing. No details on that investigation have been released.
Check the documents: Elmhurst Police Department's report on Jake Cefolia's disappearance

According to the report, Kristine Cefolia said her ex-husband suffered no mental illness to her knowledge or took any medication. But she said he might have a drinking problem. She also told police that Cefolia "fantasized about going off the grid," meaning having no electronics or communications with others, the report said.

The co-worker who left the note, Joe Tibble, told police he was at Cefolia's house about 7 p.m., about an hour before Cefolia's son left, according to the report. He said Cefolia told him he broke up with his girlfriend in San Francisco, saying, "It's all Wendy's fault," according to the report. Tibble also told the police that he found it unusual that Cefolia was taking the day off the next day, which was a Friday.

Tibble checked United's flight logs, and Cefolia's last fight was Aug. 5, a day before he was last seen. The flight was from San Francisco

The police then called Wendy Rodriguez, who reported that she broke up with Cefolia a few weeks before, but Cefolia wanted to get back with her, the report said. Her birthday was Aug. 4, and Cefolia stayed the night.

Rodriguez told police that Cefolia mentioned something about wanting to go into the mountains to be alone. She said Cefolia had been stressed over work and was drinking more than usual, but did not make any concerning statements, according to the report.

Cefolia's sister, Genny Horan, who lives in Bloomington, told police her brother came to her house with his children Aug. 2. She said he seemed to be in good spirits. According to the report, his sister made police aware of another of Cefolia's girlfriends, Dina, who said she last communicated with Cefolia about 2:30 p.m. Aug. 6 by text, after which he did not respond to her messages. Dina said Cefolia was set to be at her house for dinner Aug. 8.

According to the report, the Elmhurst police have obtained video of Cefolia's black Range Rover at Shell gas station, 301 W. Butterfield Road in Elmhurst, about 9 a.m. Aug. 7. Check the video here.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office ran Cefolia's license plate about 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Aug. 8, but the agency did not have details about why, police said. The sheriff's office also could not determine who in the department ran the plate, police said.

According to the report, DuPage County Forest Preserve officers found Cefolia's Range Rover on the night of Aug. 8 at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Lemont, where Cefolia was known to run. A canine search was conducted without success. A number of other searches have taken place at the preserve.

Cefolia, who leads a workforce of 725 at United, has been with the company since 2007. He put his house on Rex Boulevard for sale in June, now priced at $549,900. He bought it in 2016.

Elmhurst police have not issued an announcement to the public about Cefolia's disappearance or released his photo.

Ask yourself;

Why leave your cellphone and apple watch at home; then use a credit card to buy gas at a station with plainly visible video cameras......

I guess it depends on whether you have a burner phone and another vehicle parked elsewhere in the park. The same park you run in all the time, and most likely know the area rather well. Either the guy picked that park to be his last living experience.....or he’s well on his way to living “off the grid”, which he apparently talked about a lot.
