Default Furlough Fund Update

FYI from today's MEC Update

Treasurer's Report - Captain Rick Cameron

Treasurer Captain Rick Cameron reviewed the current financial status of the various MEC accounts under his responsibility and the proposed 2021 budget.

Now that all announced pilot furloughs are canceled, Capt. Cameron is recommending suspension of the Furlough Fund assessment. The earliest this can take effect will be the November 1 pay check. There will be a further review next spring to determine the likelihood of furloughs. If furloughs are unlikely, the fund would be terminated at that time with refunds to all pilots who contributed.

And then the nutjobs will say: “Surely there some way that Insler is trying to screw us by giving us money back!!!”

no, they will restart the assessment then, sadly, due the large number of furloughs announced in April. The fund needs to be shutdown, not suspended. We can vote again next year.

Sounds like a good plan.

I am really hoping things start showing SIGNIFICANT improvement.

I know some guys will lose sleep over alpo holding that money for a bit ... If I were to lose sleep I would make it over something like traffic not coming back and BK storm clouds on the horizon.

Not worth losing sleep over anything. There are some items that need attention. Walking and chewing gum really isn’t that hard.

Agree ... that’s why I put “If I were to lose sleep ...”

Exactly! I can’t believe an assessment wouldn’t have to be revoted on considering the recent changes!?

Just send an email to [email protected] requesting cancelation of assessment deductions. Very easy..problem solved.

OK, and that will make a difference this time how? Payroll close out happens on the 8th and the company was in process of finalizing for the mid-month check. The company has said they can turn off assessment for the November 1st paycheck.

Considering administrative costs of opening, closing, auditing and then distributing the funds - which come out of the funds - then I have no problem with the funds being held in an account until it is determined whether or not UA furloughs next year. I would rather NOT pay all of those costs twice out of MY money. Just my opinion.

I almost fell out of my chair reading a rational and well thought out position on this issue. How dare you not act like a 2 year old throwing a temper tantrum.....and cancelling their DCO.
