Default A Tough Week...

Within the past week we have lost three of our Brothers. Let’s watch out after ourselves, our families, and each other!!! If you feel like you are getting to a breaking point, please, please seek out help!!! We have a ton of resources available to us, including each other!!!

SOAR PSP is available. I won’t post the number since this is a public forum. There is a link on the MEC homepage.

SOAR PSP (Support Outreach Assistance Resources - Peer Support Program) is United's Peer Support Program run by ALPA line-pilot volunteers. The goal of SOAR is to Support pilots through peer Outreach, providing confidential Assistance, and guiding pilots to Resources that will help them manage elevated stressors within their professional and/or private lives.

Our SOAR volunteers are trained on UAL benefits and resources to assist pilots experiencing difficulties in the way of psychological, physiological, or chronic stress and family issues - without jeopardizing their careers.

Contact a volunteer 24 hours a day via the SOAR Hotline. All calls are CONFIDENTIAL.

Take care of each other, unless you voted differently on the TA or are in a different third. Or if your political views are different. Have read these threads? Pilots don’t give a rats ass about each other.

These programs, while representing good intentions, are window dressing to make our altruistic pilots colleagues feel good. My observation is the walking emotionally wounded don’t have a true resource at work or in the union.

Thor, WADR, that is not needed commentary. Don’t know your fleet or seat but please remember that no one knows what stressors any pilot is experiencing much less how they handle it.

You do have a resource cited above. If you need the number it’s on the MEC website.

I have an opinion about peer help programs at ALPA based on my experiences and certainly am entitled to share those views here.

The resources are there, but pilots are generally not the type to seek help.....especially not within the same realm that their livelihood comes from. Plus....it’s fairly common that the type of help a person needs isn’t always the help that they want.

*keep comin’ back, Thor 😉

Absolutely! And albeit trained they won’t claim to be clinical professionals in mental health. They will refer you to those resources. They will also let you vent your anger/frustration with ?

If you don’t have a spouse or friend that will just let you vent to, sorry. This board really isn’t the answer though.

Default WADR I know several pilots

including those I mentor who have been tremendously helped by SOAR volunteers. No they are not trained counselors, but they are a great first stop and are trained to triage the situation, help you determine your fit for duty, let you vent, and then help you get the help you need.

I did not make this post to start taking about being left or right, or any “thirds” someone might be. This is post about our fellow brethren. Nothing more!!!

Half of your previous post is out of line!!!
