Good QOL?

It was terrible. I live in DTW, and I drove 75% of the time when I was ORD based. Getting between the North terminal and the McNamara is a pain, so you'll either have to choose Delta or United/American. A couple of the regionals fly for both of us, so they'll have priority on any flight you try for.

On the Chicago side, do you enjoy running from the end of C to the complete other side of the airport to try to make an American flight? Only to get bumped off and have 20 minutes to make it back to C to try for the next United flight? Rinse and repeat for the Delta terminal.

This. If you’re gonna commute to one, EWR will offer better progression. ORD always give you the driving option though depending on where you live.

How hard is it to get from LGA to EWR? Is there any sort of shuttle between the 2 airports?

There is an FA shuttle that operates between the two at set times. But you could be sitting around for hours trying to get on it. Public transit is just under 2 hours, IIRC and an Uber runs $70-100.

The commute between the two should be pretty short lived though. As a lineholder, you’ll pick one or the other. For me, LGA is a much easier commute with lower load factors. It also depends what fleet. Bus does or did more LGA stuff.

Also, you get “doubletown” pay of ~ $95 for the trouble of getting to LGA if you get a trip that starts out of LGA.

ORD?

How long does it take to hold ORD on 737 or A320? I’m sure the MOAB will change things, just curious as to how it’s been lately

As of today, there are 472 pilots on the list who are junior to the most junior ORD pilot. That should include last week's new-hire class but not the one that starts tomorrow.

FWIW, the two most junior pilots in ORD are a 737 FO followed by a 320 FO.

Lately is a relative term, since hiring just started up after a year pause. Prior to that during the last wave, it was 6 month-1 year, IIRC. Looking at the junior numbers on the current bid, it looks like those guys were hired towards the end of 2019.

I know the running joke is we will get a Florida base tomorrow. I’ve heard it for 14 years because we have a maintenance base there. I understand it’s a tourist location, but why not open up a Florida base with Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers? There are a ton of businesses and growth opportunities…. And Tom Brady won a championship there and Tampa Bay Lightning too😂…I’m just sayin
