We didn’t get furloughed during a global pandemic and economic shutdown forecast to last 3-4 years. I think we will get through this unless we get told to hide under our school desks.

Part of the reason no furloughs happened was because of Bailout money to the airlines... there will be no bailouts this time around and Oil unfortunately will continue to rise. We are in a crazy and insane industry. We can go from hiring thousands of pilots per year to the music stopping withing 2 months.

This is true, except unprecedented retirements coming, not only that but the pilot group worked with management to reduce costs before CARES money, and there’s many more juniors now, as a skeptic I am optimistic. Unless this expands to NATO then all bets are off.

You cannot judge the pandemic as a down cycle as a normal furlough. This was not a normal business down turn. Lots of political support, controversy yes, but both sides willing to try cooperation to get deals done. Again, not normal. In a true business down turn, there will be no support for the airlines, and no deals or massive pay cuts to keep employees on the books. Furloughs will happen again at some point. We are a long ways from that happening.

Hire till you furlough.
