The wearing of masks on the inbound flight is so as not to spread COVID among the passengers before deplaning. I think there is some sense there.
Leaving Canada and Mexico, masks are supposed to be worn on the plane until the door closes. How strictly that is enforced is a point of further debate.
All that makes sense to you?

Didn’t UAL commission a study that found that the cabin of an airliner is safer because of the constant air circulation and HEPA filters? Can’t passengers spread COVID in the airport before getting on the plane and carry it after masking enroute? Does the virus know not to try to spread itself on the plane while you wear the mask during boarding and then not spread after the door closes and people take their mask off but only on flights back to the US?

It’s time to unmask. And Canada is basically a communist state now.

Yeah this all under the scientifically debunked idea that mask mandates do anything. Little paper or cloth masks do actually nothing. The mandates have no logical reason and really only have negative outcomes on the airplane, people honestly should feel embarrassed if they try to enforce them. Let people make their own choices and suffer the consequences from the country they arrive in if they try to break the rules

Not sure who "told" you, but technically passengers are required to wear the mask on the inbound flight per that country's order. Passengers are asked to wear masks getting on plane at US departure point, and appropriate announcements are made to that effect by FA's. I don't believe the mask policy is strictly enforced inflight. Obviously upon leaving the plane, Canada and Mexico both require a mask.

Clearly, but it certainly doesn’t make sense to me even though it actually is what you think. At least that’s what you said on the your reply I quoted. That was my point.

Thanks for all the replies. I just was trying to understand the disparities between airlines and within United itself. I’ll probably go back to American as none of my flights to NRT have required a mask.
Hope it changes and when it does I’ll gladly return to flying UA business class (mask less)
