Retired pilots in the sim is scope concession
Nobody seems to be talking about this, but this TA opens the door to giving away, bit by bit, using seniority list pilots as the exclusive sim instructors. We are fairly unique in that regard, and we should not crack that door open. It’s not as grave a threat as the first RJ’s, but it will go exactly the same over a decade and that’s a lot of pilots.

Couldn’t agree more.

Next thing you know, we are in a serious downturn that guts our contract, yet TK is still magically full of non-United pilots doing the instructing. |
Start naming them…
The retired list at TK will be a who’s who of who F’ed their fellow pilots previously. This is 100% a scope concession and if age 67 passes you can bet your sweet arse these jack rabbits will immediately file to be back to line status. Just remember you read it here first. This gives them a job post retirement with fingers crossed they may get back into a flying seat at some point.

Yeah… slippery slope.

TK manning is clearly the unions leverage behind this contract. The company recognizes this an never wants the union to have this leverage again - this is the reasoning behind the inclusion of the PUPs clause. If the company cannot staff the training center with the standard supply/demand that market economics decide within the seniority list than this clause allows an additional pool of labor that has zero leverage to make future changes.

Notice how it doesn’t indicate what the pay rate will be for those PUPs (what a stupid name). To me this issue alone is reason to vote, and I’m not in the building or ever intend to be.
