Default Boeing may shelve MAX 10

Boeing's CEO said the company could cancel the 737 MAX 10 if regulators don't certify the jet before new crew alerting system standards take effect in December, according to a report Thursday.

The airplane manufacturer confirmed comments by Boeing Chief Executive Dave Calhoun, who told Aviation Week that shelving the MAX 10 "is not that threatening" in light of some of the other challenges the company has faced in recent years.

"The (737-10) is a little bit of an all-or-nothing," he told the publication.

Calhoun has previously spoken hopefully of solving the problem, which could be resolved by Congress if the plane is not certified in time.

But the Federal Aviation Administration has been taking longer to approve Boeing planes after criticism of the agency in the wake of two fatal crashes of earlier versions of the 737 MAX that left the plane grounded globally for more than a year.

Per the United Next investors presentation, 2-4% of the 4-6% of the growth forecasted are predicated on up-gauging our aircraft, and 150 of the 270 orders on file are MAX 10’s.

This may have a relatively decent impact on the United Next plan and should be interesting to see how it is resolved.

I think Boeing is trying to bluff against a full house when they aren’t even holding a pair…

Good.
Cancel that aerodynamic abomination.
Then purge everybody in that department above the rank of blue collar.

Thought UA had a plan to convert their max 10 orders to max 9 (at a discounted price) and executed a few months ago.

I haven’t seen anything official pointing to that, but it is the likely outcome I suppose.

Edit: According to the latest new releases, United has about 250 max 10s on order between old orders and the newest corona virus era order.

I find it ironic that Boeing would have to shelve the Max10 over a certification deadline due an outdated warning system, just to replace those orders with max9’s with the same exact system. 😂😂

You mean they are crying and throwing a temper tantrum that they will have to actually design an airplane?

They should have designed a new airplane after the -800 NG. This is just a show. They’ll point to the billions of dollars in sales and the thousands of constituents that could lose their jobs over this and the politicians will grant an extension. It will get certified and I can’t wait to try and limp that pig out of DEN on a hot day. The 9 is bad enough, adding more weight can only make it better.🙄

Remember when Boeing fought the CS 100 with tariffs and then their whole plan backfired and Airbus ended up getting the entire program for free?

I hope the same thing happens here so nobody (pilot, FA, or passenger) has to suffer on the 737 MAX 10.
