That's what I keep trying to convince myself of.

What do airlines want? The cheapest airplane that can safely accomplish the mission, commonality for crew training, and commonality for maintenance. That translates to a stretch of a current airplane (lower development costs, no additional crew training, and extremely little maintenance changes).

If airlines wanted to pay more money for a clean sheet design airplane with the performance of a 757, Boeing would build it. But airlines do not want that. Airlines want an airplane that can haul 200 pax from coast to coast as cheaply as possible.

Boeing is only in business because they produce jets that their customers want. The airlines are asking for the Max. Next time you get mad about the Max 10, blame United and the other customers (Southwest) for what they are asking Boeing to create.
Boeing was also lazy and picked all the low fruit so to speak. Yes the airlines will like anything “economical” but, that doesn’t mean it’s the best product or the safest. It’s time for a clean sheet aircraft, built by engineers and not C suit managers. I hope this abomination of a plane never sees the light of day.

it didn’t backfire, it was the plan all along. Sorry if the media didn’t explain it to you well enough. Neither AB or Boeing want Chia in the airplane building business. Boeing did not rush to try and buy Embraer. That plan was in the works all along COVID and the MAX grounding delayed it. The A220 isn’t exactly writing checks for AB. That program is still losing money only the A380 is worse and getting worse. The A380s will all be gone in 10 years and that is going to hurt. OEMs don’t make money selling aircraft. They make the money taking care of them for 20+ years.

once again chess is a long game.

My experience has been that Boeing spends 75% of their time focused on the next quarter, and the remaining 25% of their time focused on the next 12 months.

Expecting Boeing to have some long-term "4D Chess" plan regarding the CS100/A220 seems to be wishful thinking.

Take away their military contracts from all the wars we are continuously fighting on behalf of other “freedom lovers”, then let’s see how long their garbage airplanes and management keep them in business.

Probably not too hard to stay in business on government largesse.

Aren’t the current 752s on the newer side from the old CAL book? The 763s are ancient and probably the lowest common denominator of reliability issues no?
I think this fleets biggest challenge is a 763 replacement. The 788 is not it. The 752 can be replaced almost everywhere now…. Where not?

I must have missed all the Chinese interest in the 220, the airlines lining up to buy it and the investment in it being built.

Boeing is a dumpster fire and AB is eating them alive.

same. it's amazing to see the lies being invented in this thread to defend Boeing's epic failures.

IIRC PNW has really strong Boeing connections. Almost like he’s married to Boeing.

No way Boeing actually cancels it. This is just political posturing to get congress to give them an extension. Unfortunately. Talk about a jet that needs to be canceled.
