Default TA vote extension

I am trying to figure out why the UAL MEC would extend the voting and lose the clout an overwhelmingly No vote would deliver - as it did for the DAL MEC in 2015. Did the company agree to increase the overall compensation or did they say the package would have the same value? I have heard conflicting interpretations of the UAL Mgmt letter.

As an outsider it seems that extending the vote without improving the deal is just delaying the inevitable and further raising the burden on Retro pay.

Because their MEC also endorsed the TA and are facing recall votes and they are trying to save face?

Kirby avoids an embarrassingly huge NO vote ahead of the Q2 earnings call in which they want to appear turning the corner and a no-cost opportunity to get a 50% +1 deal. Todd Insler avoids the same embarrassingly huge NO vote in the midst of his campaign for ALPA President and ahead of the BOD in mid-October. The majority of the MEC, "Toddlers", will do anything to help him get elected and probably believe Insler's ceaseless proclamations that the MEC saved United in the midst of the Covid pandemic. Our MEC represents the company more than the pilots. If you doubt it check out the company's opening letter for this negotiation. Does it look familiar?

From town hall: The letter was a result of a discussion between the Master Chair and the CEO. The SVP who wrote the letter was the messenger.

The real information in the letter was that they wouldn't sue the union or seek TRO or run to the NMB if we suspended or delayed voting for 3 months while asking for more.

Anyway, when someone offers more its probably a good idea to see 'how much more' especially when they have to come back in 90 days vs the 8mo-1y to start over would take...

No. A no net cost attempt at a 50% +1 TA is a horrible idea. Delta TA1 was the way to precede and our MEC blew it.

Because Insler wants to be ALPA President and the stink of a TA failure might preclude that, so they kicked the can down the road 3 months until after the national elections in October.
