QOL over pay you say. United is not your airline. We do not have any QOL here. You cannot drop trips. Our pool display is RED all month. We never have pilots. Days off 12-14 that's it. The new plan seems to work everyone to max hours 89 min days off. DC 757 commutable 737 period has early shows all bases.
ORD is a grave yard with little to no movement. DCA better depending on the plane.
In case you missed we are in a sh!t storm now with our union. TA that if passed would give us work rules worse then most regional airlines. IE we will be going backwards big time.
Think long and hard about accepting any job with UA!

UA fleet breakdown by domicile
Related to the original post... If anyone at UA can provide UA fleet breakdown by domicile, it would be highly appreciated? I don't understand why that info is so hard to find. If you have any info regarding the seniority per type, at least in SFO, LAX and DEN, that would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

And I’ve been step 2 and step 5 reassigned multiple times and had days off robbed.

Agreed. I left a LCC for United and have no regrets (except the base) but the reserve rules here are BAD. I actually didn't bother to do the research before coming over because I just assumed that it won't be any worse than my previous regional or LCC for that matter. A lot of guys have been here for a long time and they have no clue just how bad some of our work rules are.

Don't have any data on Average days off, but it is 12 or 13 on reserve depending on the month length, and then variable based on how senior of a lineholder you are for lineholders. On all the fleets the Lines have been constructed to pretty high values over the spring and summer, so the junior lineholder that has inefficient trips is ending up with 13 or 14 days off.
I will let a commuter speak to commutability, but that is also wildly dependant upon where you are commuting from.
The trip mix shown is from the ALPA report for the August flying. It doesn't show base specific mix, but does give a good idea of the trip mix across the different fleets.
The below shows the line seniority number of the junior pilot staffed in each seat/location and the junior pilot gauranteed a line in each seat/location.
Pure trip drops are difficult to come by right now as the coverage is so poor it basically would require somebody being willing to do a straight pick up of your trip. Since everybody's lines are being built to a high initial number, most people can't/dont want to do a straight pickup. Hopefully as they catch up on OE training (happening already on the 320) the staffing will get to the point where at least some people can get a drop (senior folks generally) . We do have trip trading that includes bad day-worse day, so if you have a trip later in the month you want to get out of and they have an open trip earlier in the month where the coverage is worse, then you can trade. It can work for trips later in the monht, but is much more restrictive so almost never works.
Also of note is that the 777 and 787 have gone very junior/unfilled in DCA recently, so you could get that assignment potentially as a new hire or very quickly thereafter if you were interested. If you are going to stay commuting, I would highly discourage that path!!!

for reserve, we have long call, short call (pretty standard), but also field standby, which is where you sit at the airport for 4 hours.
we also have global reserve for fleets that are designated global (basically international, outside of the Americas, to keep it simple). This gives you a handful of hard days off, but also other days off which can be changed by scheduling. Yup.
scheduling can assign short calls and field standbys at a whim and there’s nothing really keeping them from doing it. You barely get compensated if they do it.
reserves can pickup trips that are silo or silo -1, so if you’re on a 5 day reserve block, you can grab a 5 or 4 day trip. This is seniority based, or whoever is quicker, if nobody grabbed it.
our reserve pool is based on days of reserve left and FIFO (first in first out). with the aggressive pickup and the short calls and field standbys that just magically appear on the schedule at whatever time, it’s really hard to tell if you’re going to be next up or not.
if you get back from a trip with a day of reserve left, good luck getting out of that one without some assignment.
if you’re on a trip, they say you’re treated like a line holder, but that’s just for rest, really. Any reassignment pay, etc, doesn’t apply. So your Captain (or FO, I suppose, if you’re a CA on reserve) could get a nice 50% bump for something and you get… nothing.
there’s a reason there are so many unfilled Captain positions. Nobody wants to upgrade until they’re sure they can hold a line as Captain.
