I commuted for my first 5 years. It’s fine. People just want the DL way to be sitting at the computer at midnight waiting for the clock to hit zero so they can sign up for a ride……I want to hear what these same pilots say when they are top 100 seniority playing a BS game after 30 years. My bet is they will say that the DL way is BS because they are senior….

At United you give yourself 2 flights, if you don’t make it you call the crew desk and the positive space you if they need you…If not you go home. Of the 2 or 3 times that happened they positive spaced me.

We have some losers here that just show up and don’t list but there is not many. commuting sucks no matter what….there is no good commute.

Yep! I did the same thing out of IND. $35 a month doesn’t break the bank and it gives you that many more options.

If you live in MCO and don’t intend to leave, UAL is the better choice because you live in base vs a career of commuting by air. You’ll have the option to commute to wide body for periods of time but can still spend as much of your career living in base as you want to as long as you’re willing to fly the 737.

This is only partially true and somewhat misleading. At Delta, there is a time "game" to booking a jump seat based on first come first served. However, it is triaged for importance. Going to work? 5 days prior the window opens for booking. Going home from work? 3 days prior the window open up. Non-reving and want a back up jump seat? A day prior the window open up.

So, I like that their system prioritizes work related jump seating over non reving Maybe a cross between both systems could achieve commuter nirvana.

Probably not achievable when some suffer from "We have the greatest system, no changes needed" syndrome.

Delta, 100%. They will always make more, always have better work rules, better QOL, more affordable domiciles. About all UAL offers is more variety in WB flying, but even that gets old after a while. You’re mil so I assume you’ve made it around and value your time home more than anything else, well reserve goes senior at DAL. At United it’s a punishment.

Don’t let an MCO base tempt you. It’s a 737 base only, probably won’t be much more if it even survives the next down turn. It’s new, it’s small, it’s a trial run.

That sounds terrible. Why is work more important? I’ll take a pure seniority system without the nonsense of prioritizing work.

while there are senior people who change plans last minute, it’s not as bad as made out here.

You can use method number 2 at Delta as well if booking the JS isn't your thing.
