Back in the day, flying 19 seaters part 135 for the regionals, the only dispatch function was canned flight plan routings. No pesky dispatcher to send you a release. The Captain was PIC and Dispatch. After consulting the weather and FO, you would physically write your requested fuel on a slip. Hand it to the fueler planeside 6 or 8 times per day. And no autopilot or autothottles to fly those 6-10 legs. Amazing. But I wouldn't call it the Bigs... at $35/hour ($77 in today's dollars) for Captain, it was more like that league that fielded Chico's Bail Bonds Bad News Bears.

Work smarter, not harder. The career progression flows one way. Nobody applies to a regional after years at a major.
