I would agree with you but after going to JetBlue and them not having blue shirts in stock, horrible fabric on the pants, and the cheapest brass made out of chinesium… if you leave it up to people that will never wear it you will get the lowest bidder. Our passengers notice if we are wearing worse pants than a Walmart greeter. The $30 dollar JetBlue shirt took $60 in alterations to not look bad. Guess who ended up paying the $60 per shirt while first year pay was $50 an hour? The little things matter and we are going to be wearing this for a few decades.
The wear testers that volunteered here when we were without a contract for 5 yrs made me scratch my head. It isn’t objective if you round up a bunch of political climbers in the company and they are unsurprisingly supportive.

Conflating the ops specs portion of the FOM with the admin portion is beyond silly, IMO. The feds absolutely care about compliance with ops specs. They couldn’t care less how we wear a uniform, nor would they ever attempt to enforce it. As someone who owns a leather jacket, if they reimburse the cost, I’ll play along. Otherwise, I suspect lots of wintertime leather jackets will continue to be visible at United.

We show pride in our profession by knowing and enforcing the UPA, knowing our history(reading flying the line 1 and 2), wearing your ALPA pin on the tie(the most important piece of the uniform, btw), backing the PAC, and mentoring young guys about why we do what we do. The uniform is what the company wants you to wear. Although nothing wrong complying with their uniform standard, the uniform is about the company, not the profession.
