Former (now obviously deceased) CEO of OceanGate. It’s reported he was the youngest ever person to obtain a type rating. Occurred in 1981 at United. DC-8.
ATP age requirement is 23, restricted ATP is 21.
Was he actually a captain at UA?

No. He never flew for United.

My guess would be he got a type rating at some point that they were selling extra training center capacity to other customers if he really did get a type rating there.

John Travolta had a 707 type rating on his private pilot certificate.

More appropriate to mock him for blatantly ignoring any semblance of safety or proper planning.

What you’re saying is akin to NOT speak of someone that tried to climb Everest without properly training/equipping themselves, conning people to go with them, then having the WRONG outcome.

In the podcast episode, Pogue said the sub's build — which includes "MacGyvered" ceiling lights and an Xbox controller for navigating the vessel — as well as the safety waiver, gave him cause for concern.

In a 2019 interview, Rush lamented "obscenely safe" diving security regulations, although he said he understood the rules.
