Question WB Left seat

43 year old, CJO’s at 2 majors- what are the chances/odds of ever seeing WB Captain? Ideally at IAD.

Can’t really predict the future, but if everything were just like it is today (same number of planes, age 65 retirement), it’s unlikely. You’d be just shy at 5000-5500. With growth, it might be possible.

I think it is important to say that, at the moment, your highest probability will be at United versus AA or DAL. If your goal is primarily to be a WB Captain there are foreign carriers where your chances would be even higher.

Definitely not at AA, and DAL unless something drastically changes in their business models. Maybe at UAL, depending on 787 options, New Middle of the Market aircraft, 777 replacements etc.

Your best bet to UAL and start feeding your captains all your bread and desserts from your crew meals to clear a path forward for yourself.

Yes, always offer your Eli’s cheesecake to the captain!

If you adjust your question to “would I ever get off weekend reserve as a widebody captain” it’s easier to say definitively no.
