Default 4 year degree 97%

FYI
even though it’s not a requirement
97% of pilots hired have a 4 year or better

Not true a significant number of pilots have been hired at all legacies last year or two (since all dropped 4 year degree requirement).

Senior UAL 777 CA - Provide career counseling and mentoring.
FYI - No 4 year degree

So, in all likelihood, the vast majority of those individuals hired had already finished their 4 yr degree and moved on to building hrs before covid even began, much less since majors dropped the requirements in the last ~18 months.
Having a degree gives you more options, but in this hiring environment, I would not advocate for others to delay building time to complete it.

it’s their personal decision
I just stated the facts as of today and I don’t know what will happen in the future

3-5 years ago I’d say you’d be 100% correct. Today absolutely NOT, all legacies are hiring a a significant number of pilots without 4 year degrees. The 97% number you quote was true before the pandemic. Today it’s much lower. It would be massively lower but the fact that most pilots qualified already have 4 year degrees.

Pre pandemic 17,000 qualified pilots applications on file with all the legacies and LCC’s. Today less then 2,000 and they are in marginally qualified at best.

Legacies hiring 2000 hours no degree and no turbine PIC - LCC’s a hiring 1500 CFI’s. It’s all about a seniority number get it fast before all the massive hiring ends.

Gonna be fun when the post 9/11 guy who got a masters degree to goose the resume and get hired gets to fly with the guy who doesn’t have any college whatsoever.

“So… do you like… stuff?”

No degree here, but I can string together a sentence and hold a conversation.

On a good day.
