United's HIMS program is the flagship amongst all the legacies. Tolerant, well-run and extraodinarilly generous.

Most of our pilots have no clue how many of their peers are in this program. If you're on a widebody, chances are you don't even get through your month without flying with somebody who is a recovering addict of some sort or another. (I say that because of length of service, and amount of pilots)

As far as HR goes, they don't get an automatic penalty flag on this one. HIMS is too carefully negotiated and andminstered for them to have much to say and for UAL to have any real liability exposure. If you're in HIMS and sober, you've got a first class medical and aren't any different from a pilot with another special issuance. If they could discriminate against you for being an alcoholic, then anybody with benign heart disease, monovision or even a hypertension special waiver could be sent packing.

Anybody who flew at COEX knows we had a guy who got fired for flying under the influence of cocaine, went through HIMS, and still came over here on the flow-through.

Your first stop is your current ALPA LEC HIMS volunteers. They'll actually know the answer to the question of "yes or no?" and "how long?" They also know our HIMS volunteers.

Not 100% accurate. Was at CAL first…then flowed DOWN due to furloughs. Both COEX and CAL tried to fire said individual. Guy went through HIMS and flowed back up at some point.
Not disputing the rest of your post, at all.

I forgot, you're absolutely correct. Thank you. There are hundreds of pilots in the program.

The guys who did prison in Scotland still work here. It is almost impossible to get fired here...
