i genuinely use cruise time to look at the updates to the FM and the FOM. I periodically review memory items and all that. Literally everything we need to do to keep up in this game can be done at work.

The only two airline times I've spent significant time studying at home has been:
New hire at DAL, wife was diagnosed with a brain tumor on day 2 of indoc. Less than a week after her brother was killed in a farm tractor rollover. Fleet Captain sent me home vs rolling right from indoc to training and told me to call him when I was ready, but please show up ready to rock. If you need more time to study, it's cool keep us updated. Had been at Delta 3 days and the Fleet Captain sent me home, with pay, for as long as we needed. I figured I was being paid to study.

Return from Mil leave.. Sat NQAT (no qual awaiting training) for 6 months. Swapped aircraft for CA upgrade, was getting full pay to sit on ass on my couch. I managed to break collarbone, have it fixed, heal, and still hadn't had to call out sick. I studied the 320 stuff when I was stuck on the couch with my shoulder mummified.

But any studying for CQ or in my case going back to the 757? I just read that in cruise.

while it seems most on here at APC magically seem to study enroute, 99% of guys I fly with do not. Then we end up flying to San Juan and then give me the oh sh*t look when they have no idea what class 2 procedures are.

No, I maybe I shoud have been more clear. The flight I was operating was between FRA and EWR in my story. At that time AI had what we called a scissors hub at FRA with three flights coming up from India and four from North America meeting at 6AM. When I was at AI their rules were after 10 hours scheduled a relief pilot would be added. Then at 14 hours they went two crews. Guess what...I never saw a fllight scheduled between 10 & 14 hours. In the winter we would often see flights take over 10 hours but always scheduled for 9:59 between FRA & ORD. The 22 YO FOs would always ask if they could take a nap which I would OK and then ask after they woke up if I wanted to nap. My reply to that question was not on your life.
