Default Offline jumpseat checkin

Hey guys. AA guy here. What are the rules for how early an offline pilot can check in for jumpseat on a mainline United. I've often been told 1 hr so wait until gate agent is present at gate and at an hour checkin. We have a commuter here always bending the rules on AA and now I'm seeing him on the standby list for a flight tomm morning at 7:08am. He was not rolled over from the last flight tonight as he wasn't on standby list and it left with empty seats. Is he allowed to go to airport the day before and list????? A few other pilots here also think he is using an automated checkin app for AA which is against our rules. He's has checked in before while airborne, a few times when I check he has been within 5 min of takeoff or landing based ON/OFF times for his flight

How much has this guy harmed you that you’ve sleuthed on/off times with check in times?

Check in is at the gate. So if the gate agent is there can check in. No clue if there’s a limit how far out or at another gate as I’ve never had to do that.

Not at UAL, but there is no way to do that at DAL.

Enough that I started checking. Sometimes we only have 1 50seat AA RJ a day. Other days last flight home is 4pm
40 guys live here so sometimes 7 guys standing there for 1 weight restricted RJ. If my son wasn't here I'd be gone tomm

do you actually fly for United mainline??? Doesn't sound like it

We wouldn’t really know our own rules for OAL pilots, since we don’t have to list that way. Are you saying this jumpseater is an AA guy listing on United or the other way around?

If you download the ALPA app, you can see the OAL JS policy for all airlines. Ours just says list at the gate—no timeline associated with it.

Uhh, yes I do. Which is why I don’t need to check in with the gate and check in using the app. Then just grab the pass whenever…

An ENY once showed me how he was able to check in online much earlier than an hour prior. It didn’t affect me enough to remember how he did it. I don’t think it was against any rules though.

As for this guy checking in while flying, he certainly wouldn’t be the first guy to have a wife or friend check in for them. That might be against some of your rules, but, like I said, he’s definitely not the first.

It’s Vietnam rules baby. He’s probably in the airport, walked by an agent and asked to be checked in. The glory of just walking up and doing it as opposed to that stupid website we have to use to ride on AA, F9, B6 and others.
