It only burns for a few seconds!

In Unity...

How long does it take to hold a guam as a new hire these days?

I know there were people who got it on day 1 during after covid era but now I heard things have changed.

Depends on who is bidding out so could be immediate or a long time. Ending of daily FUK and delayed service to Cebu probably means not gonna see vacanices any time soon.

Be careful with Cebu, may end up flying back a bunch to visit relatives.😜

2025 Updates?

So, going to class soon. I know it’s a long shot but we are very intrigued by GUM basing. We love the tropics and adventure. Just trying to arm ourselves with knowledge in case it comes available year one. I’ve read most of the stuff in APC, etc, and just wondering what things look like now since it’s been over a year since the latest GUM updates. Has the flying changed? Commuting from Mainland (plan to move but will need to get back and forth some) still the same? Overall impressions? As a first year FO what can I expect schedule wise? TIA!

I looked at the GUM bid package a few months back and the junior trips are mostly red-eye turns to HND and so on. The Island Hopper trips go super senior. As someone who detests redeyes (not to mention turns!) I'd be miserable. Those trips are single augmented so there's a rest seat, but on the Guppy it's just a regular FC seat (not a lie flat). Hopefully someone based there can offer more helpful info, though!

Most of the vacancies have Guam trending pretty senior recently, and the movement is no where like it was in 23. Guys have been pretty much in the same spot for a while. Junior life is fine if you live in base, if you are a proper, monthly commuter, it's a bit miserable because you can't really control much. If you're a sometimes commuter then it's probably okay too.

We have guys who are more senior commuting from all over the world, including the mainland.

Some people go to Guam and never leave, others nope out on the next vacancy.

I’d be a sometimes commuter, but we’d move to GUM.

Would imagine if we took it early would be on reserve. Sounds like that might not be a player, but with the MOAB and, what, 100 737s + others coming, seems like there might be a lot of movement? Anyway, just trying to be prepared because it does sound like something we’d love to give a go. Although the constant red eye thing is also something to consider.

Technically it’s not a “regular” FC seat. There’s an override lever to the recline function that allows it to go back like 70° or so. Definitely not a crew bunk, but not a standard cabin seat, either.

There’s no curtain/privacy screen so it’s a Class 3 rest facility for 117 purposes but I think the recline function would otherwise be enough to qualify it as a Class 2.

How does a seat reclining to 70* work if someone is sitting behind you? Seems like even with a FC seat it would end up putting your head all up in their business.
