Guam 737
Just got the offer to interview and hope to join you all at big blue soon. Couldn’t find much about the 737 base in Guam and wanted to see if anyone here could shed some light. Would commute from Tokyo.
Chances of getting the base in training? Junior or senior? What’s the flying like? Commutable? I believe there’s extra pay involved for being based there? I imagine the JS is available for UA pilots on UA metal internationally? TIA |
Prob won't see it in training, but maybe within a year. (Assuming you get a guppy bid in training). I think they get $3000 a month and second year pay (maybe that's changed). Actual JS is available to United pilots on international flights. Don't know anything about the flying.

$3500 now and second year pay during first year.

We have plenty that commute from Japan. Tokyo would be easiest due to flight frequency, plus we have a red eye HND now. Osaka would be second easiest.
Unless you get lucky with some GUM expansion when you start, you'll probably have to wait it out in a stateside base for a little while. Just choose the 737 in new hire to make the transition easiest. Correct, $3500 foreign base allowance and second year pay once you get the base if you sign the form to commit for 1.5 years. |

There are no direct flight from mainland USA and the only US bound flight is that 777-300ER from HNL. You can jumpset internationally and ride the comfy 300 crew bunk, way more comfortable than the polaris seat. Bring snacks for yourself and the crew on the 7:35 long flight. |

It's not a super senior base but you probabllly won't get it during INDOC at this point. It has happened less than a year ago though.

I operate that flight between GUM and HNL from time to time and we always look for and take care of our pilots on those segments by offering up the crew compartment upstairs. Since it isn’t a scheduled augmented leg, the cleaners do not supply sheets/pillows and blankets so keep that in mind as you will need to bring something to rest your head on. The two seats up there are pretty comfy and can be used for takeoff and landing (UAL Mainline only). |

Also, the SFO-HNL 77W (UA1175) depart SFO at 9:20AM and lands in HNL at 11:40AM, the same jet change crew in HNL and leave for GUM (UA 201) at 2:25PM. You land in GUM shortly after 6. The return trip depart GUM (UA200) at 6:55am and won't land in HNL till 6PM. The same 77W change crew and leave for SFO on a redeye with a 10:30 departure. Unless you come in from Japan, Phillippines or one of the Micronesia islands this is really your only option. |
