So what you are saying is that even though EVERY airline in the world has uniform standards and spends a good deal of $ to maintain them, YOU happen to know that the public doesn’t care at all about such matters, and it’s merely my opinion that they do. You know better than all those dumb airlines😂
YOU are in the industry and I’m most confident you would fail at Flight Deck Airline Uniform identification. Your traveling Pharma sales rep would do equally as poor You would and likely I would ace the same exam if it were for cabin crew. Thems the facts |
I could tell what my copilot’s background is even before I met him or her.
Military. And they sure look snappy! They take pride in their appearance. |
union wont be able to defend a pilot who refuses to comply with the “no leather jacket” uniform policy… they’ll make a few examples at the bigger domiciles and the other small group of pilots still wearing them will fall in line. I rarely see them on the line… this is a nothing burger and the union didn’t fight to keep them apparently.

The leather jackets are hideous. Good riddance.

I just have to wonder what the uniform committee was thinking. Does a 3-in-1 windbreaker look more professional than an iconic pilot's leather jacket?

Yeah, grow a beard on your days off. For a good many, this will be just another opportunity to look sloppy in uniform. We’re trying to run a business here.

1.They will mention if said Pilot is obese. 2. They will mention if their pilot was anything BUT a white male. There will be no mention of short or long sleeve, hat or no hat, blazer or no blazer, sweater or all weather jacket. They notice the epaulets but they don’t realize that it correlates to any type of hierarchy. They just Don’t ok……that’s fine that you take pride in your appearance, and I can’t say that I don’t, nor do encourage I anyone to not adhere to uniform policy. I’m curious about what you think about NATCA? Have you ever done a tour of a tower or a TRACON? Did you feel less safe once you saw everyone in there dressed like they were going to Costco? |
International trips require the coat and hat in summer. Its hot AF wearing that…
Delta doesn’t…. After a 8+ hour flight… the Deltoids look like crap.. the “I slept in my clothes and haven’t been home in 24h” look. United pilots look professional. So there is that. The other reason is …. If a crew gets sideways with a foreign government, looking professional is highly advantageous. This has been happening for 100 years, there is nothing new here. |
