Default HNL Base

It’s been mentioned by people at Hawaiian for the last 2-3 years. I even heard a Southwest crew mention it for you guys. Just curious if it’s been discussed or if it is likely. It is known that Guam is a base for you guys.

I’ve never heard one mention of it as a base. I’ve heard places like Phoenix a bunch (and still no base there).

and , yes, Guam is known as a base because it is one. Not sure what that means.

I think I've heard the TK shuttle driver mention it a time or two.

The rumor I heard from a random pilot is the powers at be might eventually consolidate 777 bases and add HNL. Is it true? Is it realistic? Is it likely? None of these considerations stop an APC thread, so speculate away!!!

HNL will "reopen" as a base a month after SEA "reopens" as a base.

Kirby hinted at it a couple years ago at the standards meeting but also said it’s just one of many possible ideas.

It’s about as likely as Air Canada opening a Singapore base, which of course I ve heard about from multiple KLM and Lufthansa crews.

They said today it’s not happening.

It wouldn’t be the worst idea given the number of 777 departures per day from HNL(more than IAH and IAD). If NRT/NGO/HND or another destination in Japan or further South came back as a nonstop from HNL it certainly makes sense.

the 777 doesn’t have enough time left to make a base in HNL worthwhile. Displacing WB pilots off an island is expensive.

the 787 on the other hand…….well see
