Yes but you don't put in too much capacity more than you'd like to sell the points redemptions on. If you put too much capacity then you gotta sell the tix the cash way and make less money on those tix compared to other destinations or have the seats go empty.

Ideally we have the normal paid load factor of 70-80% and use the last 20-30% of those planes being points redemptions so the marginal cost is low. Rather than just having extra capacity and sticking at 80% load factors. Let's say we do 50 flights/day to MCO then with that plan you can save 10 flights/day to go somewhere else.

you do realize that a substantial number of highly experienced airline pilots have been hired post Covid?

I can’t stand people that say stuff like this.

To be fair, the experience level hired post covid is way down from historic norms. Nothing to do with the guys comments just the reality of the times.

I was hired during the covid/post covid time. I had over 10,000 hours, over 2000 tpic , lca, bachelors, extra extra stuff. Many in my class and after were similar.

id also add because of the shortage a lot of people got lucky earlier in in life, didn’t instruct for years like rest of us. They got right seat 91/135 time in G5s for 1500 out of their 2000 which was way more valuable than a Lot of my instructing time etc

it’s dunce cap logic at best. It’s too broad of a brush to use seeing as ex FedEx are post Covid hires of the majors, guys who were at atlas, military guys, guys who came from spirit pre closure with years of pic experience, people from frontier and JetBlue. I’m not understanding this logic. Yes some got hired with substandard hours compared to pre covid and I guarantee even most of them had either pic time at a regional or had a multitude of types by time they were interviewed. I’m see former spirit captains who were hired last year. Truly starting to think some of those who comment aren’t even airline pilots.

I didn’t realize an airline could come here and start a thread. I thought it was just people on the internet. Technology is amazing!

It means exactly what it mean, legacy UAL pilots had a history of grouping pilots into the time periods they were hired in. Ie the 570 who are the most notable. With the post Covid hires there is definitely a lack of past CAL or UAL history knowledge/traditions. That’s not to say it’s a slight against you or anyone else but the loss of tradition is very apparent when several thousand people have been hired. This is noticeable even as an early post merger hire. See how lumped myself into a group? lol
