PS.. I have been at UA about 15 years and have never had any "adversarial" check rides... maybe the luck of the draw-- but, I agree with Fritz, that the job share STD CAs are the most "line oriented." :)

kru... are you a 570? or were you hired just after the strike? I can imagine that TK was "challenging" back in the day :(

Heard at UAL you're given a full blown systems oral during these training events. Over here we do a small review that isn't anywhere close to that.

Completely false... There is no full blown systems oral on any of the PC or PT events. There is a 2 hour systems review on day two of the PC. During the third day the standards capatin will ask you some systems questions but it isn't anywhere near a full blown systems oral. Now of course during a transition course where you are getting typed or requaled on an airframe there is an extensive SKV (systems, knowledge, evaluation.) And I am guessing you have the same when getting initial training on type. On the |

The last transition I went through was not much of a extensive system evaluation, in fact it is all done on a 100 question multiple choice test. I hate to say to but it was the worst transition class I have ever been to in my years at ual, and anyother airline for that matter.
The FAA is happy because it's state of the art training with AQP, ESKV, MTV, LOE, etc. The company is happy because they are saving dollars with a disgustingly small footprint at 2.8 hrs/day. We are happy why? Oh yes, because it is called on the job training. Fritz |

Is the 2 hour systems review a jeopardy event and how extensive are the questions asked by the standards Captain? Only reason I ask is that we have a VERY limited question and answer period, (45 mins at most), thats basically a do you know this type thing.
I have never had a SC ask me anything more than a limitation or a memory item on a pc. Most of the questions are of an operational nature and have very little to do with systems. |

Simply put, our checking events are geared for the lowest common denominator. Our transition events are designed for a pilot who has a couple Boeing types because it's not a fire hose, it's a BP Gulf oil leak. For the most part, our SC's, PI's, and AI's are all fine people who want you to learn and succeed. They are hog tied from above. |
