The ipad automatic uploads of company propaganda works just fine.
It's just a big eReader. Hell, all the JCBA Q&As were automatically uploaded for our reading enjoyment and a more effective sales job of the JCBA , how is that for an EFB. Wonder if when the FAA signed off on this project, if they had any idea what they were compromising safety by adding to cockpit distractions. There is one for the cilvil suit Lawyers!

Sent from iPad.

We have them, and mine sits happily in my house. They are not required yet, which is good because they are incredibly buggy. No word on when the airplane installs are going to occur, or when we will be required to carry them full time.

Probably never .. remember how the company bought all those tasers and sent us to one day taser training ?

The FAA didn't see the ownership rate, update rate, or use rate that it expected. Sole use (no paper) is on indefinite hold.

So, what "rates" did the FAA "expect."

Greater than what has been achieved.

Okay, the point of the question is: do United pilots have to carry all their books, manuals, charts, etc... And do their own updates? And carry one of those pesky cases?

LCAL pilots do--with the LTD case--and update all of them.

LUAL pilots don't carry Jepps, don't know about other pubs.

UAL has ship sets .. the pubs are part of the airplane. Updates done by someone (elves maybe?), but stay on the flight deck.

Of course they don't see it as its not required to be carried.

I have my own. Why would I carry something that is basically worthless? It has the FM, FOM, and gets email. Not worth it.....
