at a town hall meeting it was implied that they had "Plenty" of pilots to staff all the future flying on the horizon including whether they bring the 5 747's out of the desert and IPTE modify them which hasn't been determined yet. My question is will 5 747's, 12 737's and 4 777's on order eat up 1400 pilots?? The impression was that even if they accelerate the 787 order (UAL) they Seill won't need to hire Pilots?? How much do they think they'll be pushing the Hours per month 90-95hrs?? And is this a realisitc number??
I can tell you this. We DON'T have the ground support people to du anywhere Near what they were claiming we Could so and I didn't even KNOW the Pilots were embracing "LEAN" Strategies. BTW, How WOULD a Flight crew be LEAN anyway?? |
Speaking of UAL recalls, how exactly do their recall rights work? I've heard ten year recall rights and they go behind new hires, and also they go in front of new hires, and also it's not ten years but it could be a lifetime recall. Basically I've been listening to too many people. Not trying to flame as I'm looking for an honest answer. Lets say out of 1400 that 700 don't come back and they start hiring off the street. What happens to the 700 that bypassed?

The recall rights are part of the contract. Contracts can and do change. Under the current UAL contract the recall right protects the seniority of furloughed pilots for 10 years. They can continue to bypass for 10 years and keep the same seniority position on the list. MIL and LOA could be used to extend this amount of time in some cases. Having your seniority protected means just that. You keep your place on the list and would return to it ahead of any that were behind you before, or that are added to the list as new hires. The JCBA being worked out now, will likely contain updates to this policy. Hope that helps, SP |

Flying 90+ hours on the narrow bodies sucked and I'm under the impression that is the norm at CAL. |

6-b. A pilot will indicate his desire to return to active service or bypass his recall within 14 days from receipt of the recall notice. If a pilot elects to be bypassed, the Company will not contact him for any subsequent recalls until he notifies the Company in writing of his desire to re-enter the recall process. Such notice must be sent to the address listed in Paragraph 6-e below. The Company will notify a pilot after receiving a letter requesting recall under the terms of this paragraph, but it is the responsibility of the pilot to confirm receipt of his notice to re-enter the recall process. Once the Company has received notice of a pilot’s intention to re-enter the recall process, he will be eligible for the next scheduled recall opportunity. In case of a lack of response for recall, the pilot will be considered as bypassing recall. 6-c. A pilot who is furloughed shall be eligible to bypass recall for a period not to exceed 10 years from his furlough date, at which time his recall rights expire in accordance with Section 7-E of the basic agreement. So, I guess the answer to your question is 10 years from date of furlough for recall rights. Question is, will anything be changed in the JCBA. This LOA is in effect for the duration of the current CBA. Not saying any changes will happen but changes are permitted. Frats, Lee |
Thanks for the help guys. I'm looking forward for an opportunity, and wanted to see how the bypassed folks can/would re-enter if they did hire off the street.

Anyone have an idea when we might see some UAL guys getting the call for the CAL side?
