Default Future ual hiring

When it's all said and done and furloughs are recalled and the economy doesn't tank more, how far away are we from united airlines hiring again?
Thanks

Once a new contract is in place then that will become more clear...so many different situations directly related to the JCBA that is being negotiated.

I doubt that ALL 1400 furloughs will come back..they never do...there is always a portion that have other things going on or take a early retirement ect. Once training is spooled up...they can train I believe 125 per month..correct those numbers if I am off. Let alone adding the CAL training potential.

I've heard from a reliable source that it will take UAL & CAL about 4 years for 1,500 pilots to retire, starting in Dec 2012. Of course, this assumes no growth, which is management's desire. Management's wet dream would be to follow UAL's outsourcing and mainline shrinkage, but that's another story.

The new contract (scope) will obviously change things - CAL runs its manpower as thin as humanly possible, and you can guarantee that management will demand 100 seat scope. Of course, the new and "improved" crew rest rules eliminate the need for IROs going to Europe, so who knows what will happen.

Bottom line: I seriously doubt there will be any off-the-street hiring for the next few years.

With all due respect I think you are playing a little fast and loose with your last paragraph. There will be no 100 seat scope given away and the rest rules do not eliminate the need for IRO's on Europe flying if you read the proposal closer.

My guess is hiring late 2012.

Enough of the "I heard from a guy, who's wife's girlfriend's brother is having an affair with a gal who tends bar for a guy who owns a lawn business who's direct competitor does landscaping for a cat who caddies for the waitress who works at the same Country Club as Fred Abbott.....and they over heard...."

Bottom Line....

The 'soon to be' NEW Pilot Group has not even voted/or laid ink any kind of JCBA. When's this going to happen for certain?? Not a clue.

There are new 'proposed' Flight Time/Duty Regs. These Regs have NOT even been put into actual effect as of yet.....for that matter, we are not even sure exactly how they will read thus having a hand in required staffing.

How will UAL's 'new SCOPE' even read?? No JCBA, NO Language. This w/o a doubt will have direct results on Mainline Man Power Planning.

There are 1400+ guys/gals still on the street....Are there going to be 50% coming back??? How about 70%??? Could there be a resounding 90%+ accepting recall??? TOO SOON TO TELL....no one knows for sure.

With there being so many unanswered players/variables on the table, it is WAY too soon to even remotely/accurately guess when the new UAL would hire off the street.

Don't mean to be a buzz kill, but looking at the above without answers, hard to even say when. Like everyone else, I hope it's sooner, rather than later.

I agree, it is hard to know anything for certain. Talking with some of my fellow FO friends we have all flown recently with guys who say they are waiting this JCBA process out to see what kind of retro they can get out of the deal then bail. While I am hopeful that is the case on the CAL side, I am not holding my breath given the past history.

Only time will tell all the different factors which will come into play.

SoCal,

You are being way too logical in that reply.

And, I agree to all you said.

Isn't "logical" grounds for a TOS Violation??

Sarcasm....must be a Friday
