What to do about Contract Violation
Just wondering what we CAL folks can do in response to Skywest and Shuttle America violating our scope agreement in our CBA. I know I for one won't be allowing any of them on my jumpseat to get work to violate my contract.
Here's the latest from Skywest indicating that they will be opening a base in Houston: Dear Crewmember, As the industry and our partners continue to evolve to meet the passenger needs, so must we. Beginning January 1, 2011 SkyWest United Express will begin flying ten (10) of our existing CRJ 700 aircraft out of Houston with an additional ten (10) CRJ700’s in February and a possibility of additional aircraft at a later date. The twenty (20) aircraft are currently flying in our United Express system, and will simply be relocated into IAH from other areas. With this change we will open a Houston (IAH) crew domicile effective February 1, 2011. In order to staff the twenty (20) CRJ 700 aircraft we will need (includes reserves): Captains- 100 First Officers- 100 Flight Attendants- 200 In addition, Delta has confirmed that SkyWest Delta Connection will continue to have a presence in MSP. With this confirmation we are pleased to announce the opening of a Minneapolis (MSP) crew domicile February 1, 2011. The flying will consist of fourteen (14) CRJ 200 aircraft. In order to staff the fourteen (14) CRJ 200 aircraft we will need (includes reserves): Captains- 70 First Officers- 70 Flight Attendants- 70 As aircraft shift to accommodate the operational needs of our partners, so must our crew domiciles. In addition to the new domiciles, there will be a closure of the SBA crew domicile effective February 1, 2011. 400 jobs for crewmembers, let alone rampers, gate agents etc. |
Man, Sorry to see this bunch of crap. Looks like Smisek has been hanging around Glenn too much...although, deep down, I don't think he needs Glenn's tutledge one iota.
I bet this is one topic where you and the UAL guys will be in lock step with one another. |

And ALPA's response to this???....AH that's right, there is NONE!!
Can one say "Conflict of Interest"?? According to the DAL pilots via APC......Moak has seen it fit to "side-step" the RJ issue when asked poignant/specific questions on the topic prior to his election. Come next year when he takes office, wonder if he'll be doing the same thing. After all, it's something that has been 'dodged' by ALPA up to this point....why break step now?? |
In the latest in-flight magazine Mr. S has a bold font quote saying something to the effect of this merger gives him the "scope" to offer customers more travel options. Not intentionally in context? I'd say he is telling pilots to go screw themselves, while his customers (very few of whom ever read the useless magazine for more than the maps and puzzles) think nothing of the statement.
Give it a read if you get a chance. |
Why is ALPA not going apes#!t about this!??! What are they waiting for?!
|
Yes agreed. They said they are having their 80K/year lawyers read into it. Effing enough, pay someone who knows what the f they are doing and hang em at dawn!

Almost nobody at SkyWest wants to do this flying, but since it isn't struck work our hands are tied. Instead of taking out your frustration on a bunch of junior pilots that will want nothing more than to transfer out of Houston, why not instead focus that frustration toward your union and your management? They're the ones that can stop it. |
Time to roll out the SPSC. In the interim, please be safe out there. Remember our good friend Captain Max Safety. An ideal role model.

They're the ones that can stop it. Yea, I bet all those junior regional guys feel real bad about the flying with united paint that replaced the 100 737's and put 1437 pilots on the street as well. I remember being in the elevator to the crew room in Chicago with a Skywest crew that included an FO who was so fresh he was wearing blue dockers with his uniform because he didn't have time to get his proper uniform pants before being put on the line. This shiny new FO was giddy as a school girl about being a real airline pilot, I could tell he felt real bad about putting me out of work. Perhaps restricting the jumpseat from regional crewmembers would create enough of a cluster that management would have to do something. Probably another court injunction requiring us to allow the use of the seat for all regional commuters. If ALPA will do nothing then there is not much else to do except use the jumpseat. When all those junior guys were chomping at the bit to get hired at the regional du-jour for pi$$ poor wages they didn't seem to be concerned about the outsourcing it allowed. If regional pilots didn't feel bad about an action that put 1437 pilots on the street, why should a major pilot feel bad about a regional pilot that has a hard time getting to work. Have a nice day.:) |
