Windfall?

So, if the top UAL guys get there way and have a carve out for the 747, is there any way this can not be construed as a windfall for them? I thought ALPA merger policy precluded any 'windfalls' for any segment of the list?

Go read some past merger arbitrations, often one group had some put at top(or bottom) for various reasons. Latest was USAirways capts put on top due to no widebodies at America West being an example.

The JCBA has nothing to do with SLI. Nothing decided at this point should have anything to do with the SLI.

There is no "Carve out" nor is there a "Windfall" until there is integration.

The only thing we should be fighting for now is an industry leading contract. After that is done, we can fight for seniority.

Not to worry, UALALPO will be happy to throw all UAL furloughees under the bus to make things even out. Top of UAL list to the top and bottom of UAL list stapled. Some things never change.

Of course...why would you "predict" anything else....

Nothing has been announced at all.

No windfall at all.

This would be nothing more than trying to return to the productivity formula from previous contracts prior to bankruptcy.

This would be no more of a windfall than trying to get back:

Defined contribution plan
Defined contribution (company) equal to or greater than old actual contribution
No contribution to medical
No contribution to dental
Vacation touching
Pay for training
Downtown hotels less than 20 hr L/O
etc, etc, etc

Trying to negotiate BACK what we had is not a windfall for anyone, but a contractual improvement for everyone!

Exactly! Would you please explain that to our MECs?!

If the top 300 UAL pilots are currently 747 CAPTs, they are gonna stay 747 CAPTs...if they are at the "top" of the list, how is that a windfall?

And how would them staying a 747 CA be any different even if they weren't at the exact top of the list? Most likely there will be fences or positions available on where there are vacancies.

It would also be wrong to assume the biggest airplane captains are the most senior or the most senior people are always captains.

We have tons of senior FOs who could easily hold captain on everything from the 737 to the 777 if they desired. They don't bid it because our contract, work rules and PBS creates a vacuum. Their QOL would suffer by upgrading. Get all this fixed and you will see some movement off the senior FO ranks when vacancies occur in the system.

So you're saying that the top 300 numbers should be reserved for UAL pilots?
