First. because we are going to strike if it is not brought back in house. Second, when you consider the halo credits United attributes the regional operation, the cost advantage is quite debatable.

Picketing shows solidarity and that's all well and good, Howsumever! Wouldn't the Pilots Be BETTER SERVED By getting their Act together and gaining ONE single seniority LIST and Single Bargaining Stance?? I support what you're doing, BUT I can't halp but feel that you guys are WASTING PRIME TIME in Not getting it together and throwing down ONE FIST! To say "This situation is CROCK of CRAP and we're not Having it!" Then PROCEED to Get RID of IT! 10,000 Guys on the Same Page TOGETHER Can't Lose! You guys are the ONLY group AT United that Can't be readily Replaced.. You guys could bring Serious Attention to your "Displeasure" EXCEPT, You don't appear to be Serious. and Image is EVERYTHING! It Appears Management thinks that this "issue" is just a bunch of Continental Pilots "Whining". Nobody in the OCC (north) is looking "concerned" about it, so it leads ME to believe that this issue is either for "SALE", OR, Not worth the Time to Waste on it. Because if it WERE?
CAL-ALPA and UAL-ALPA would have ALREADY been "galvanized" into Action and speaking with a SINGLE Voice. Saying "Enough is enough"!! So If you are? Then you're Not saying it Where they can HEAR it! In the Negotiating room.. (though I vould be wrong and I Hope I am)

Actually you have it backwards. The single seniority list is what they want, because it is the only way for them to get a single
Operating certificate. And THAT is the only way to get the touted synergies they have been bragging about and promising to investors, shareholders etc.

The reason they are even negotiating is because we DON'T have a single list, and they aren't going to get one until they give us a JCBA that meets out needs. In this case, our biggest need is scope. Ironically, it is the LACK of a combined list that FINALLY gives us something they want, and THAT is why we as a collective are being emphatic. We have a little leverage for the first time in a decade.

I thought the same thing....but....US Airways now HAS a single operating certificate WITHOUT a single seniority list. I hope the new UAL has not decided that they can live like that. Sure, the synergies will not be 100%, but maybe they think its good enough?

Live with an eventual shut down? If it goes that far, which I don't think it will, smiesdick will blink first.

Not sure that is right. Last week I was talking with a USAIR West crew and they still are not flying each other's A/C or with mixed crews.

Aren't both sides still staying at different hotels as well. Sounds like they are still separate to me.

True dat... I THINK (could be wrong) that the FAA granted the SOC based on USAirways doing everything reasonable to get a single seniority list. The fact that their was an arbitrated list that the PILOTS chose to not accept is responsible for the FAA from deciding that USAirways had done all necessary to obtain the certificate. Without that arbitrated list, I don't think it would have been granted.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what my digging shows

KEEP THIS in MIND, Smisek IS the CEO, He is NOT however the Chairman of the Board who outranks him NOR is he going to be for 2 Years. Smisek doesn't have the Ball's to "Blink first" Because IF he Does? Tilton Will come out of retirement to take his PLACE and Smisek will be shown the DOOR!
Don't depend on playing "the GAME". Play to Win with a United FRONT, up front because I'll bet they don't even think you guys can Muster a "card game",, Much Less a full blown Strike!! Gotta tell you the truth, ALPA hasn't shown a lot of "fire" up to now. Maybe a lot of smoke but that could be from "Wet wood" as well..
United CAN achieve a single operating certificate without you Having a single seniority list and you'll FLY as you're directed to FLY. But you'll leave them OPEN to schedule as they choose to, route as they Choose to, Recall as they Choose to, Acquire airplanes as they Choose to, and Assign the FLYING to Whomever they Choose to. AND?? They've got 1400+ Pilots on the streets to make it SO!! So YOU tell ME.. Who again has the upper Hand again?? What you'll see if you FAIL ?? United "Whipsaw Central" Airlines. "Treachery" is the HALLMARK of United's managment!
Something you should have already SEEN By now.. All of this supposed "Continental Culture" I keep hearing about? ain't lookin' like Much to me.. (and Dorthy? You ain't in Texas either!) Get it Together and get Crackin'

I have heard over the past several months that legacy carriers are learning that many high-roller pax are growing weary of the UAX experience and that bringing some of that flying back to the mainline would be smart. But other than that why would they just automatically shift that flying back to aircraft and crews that are clearly much more expensive to operate?

Not sure you understand what we're proposing. Not saying that we should shift the flying to aircraft that are more expensive to operate. If a EMB170/5 or 190/5 is what they want to operate on that route than that's fine. WE'LL fly it. As far as more expensive crews.....we'll something's gotta give. We don't seem to have a problem operating with the most expensive management team.
