Back to topic. I really don't see the difference with the new livery. I think the capitol letters is not any different than the cal logo. Probably because I am a heterosexual male and I don't give a crap what the aircraft looks like.

I agree about the embroidered wings on the shirt. The also don't get caught on the shoulder straps.

As to the thick stripes, Merrill McPeak loved em too.

Bottom line, wear whatever the company says is the uniform properly. Long before 9/11, can't speak for CAL, but at UAL, we had guys that looked like slobs wearing knockoff JCP pants that didn't match the coat, etc.

Despite the contract issues, go to work looking like a professional. Leave the backpack at home. Wear the uniform provided by the designated vendor. And, when it is time to plus up a size, do it.

Cleaning that tie once in awhile to get rid of the crewmeal stains might also be in the cross check as well.

Cheers to all, and happy holidays.

Ual metal wings don't trigger the detectors.

Re the thickness of "your stripe", well....
I'd prefer a t shirt, flip flops, and shorts. Hold on, motion's coming on!

I wear metal wings, too, and have never triggered the metal detector. The embroidered wings eventually fade in the wash.

I agree that some pilots do look like slobs. We have our share of guys over here who go buy black khakis (and at least one black jean wearer that I know of).

However, I do not wear the uniform pants from the chosen vendor. Our vendor used to be Cintas. I was not happy with the quality of their clothes and on more than one occasion received sizes completely different from what I ordered. Once I received two pairs of pants labeled the same size but the waist was off by 4 inches between them. I would always order them unhemmed and took them to The Men's Wearhouse to get them finished off.

Now we have gone to this G&K Uniform company which is flat out the worst quality stuff I have ever seen. I was happy to go to a new company but when I went to try on their stuff I said, "I can't believe that someone is worse than Cintas."

So now I go exclusively to Men's Wearhouse for my pants. I bring in my uniform coat, but it always ends up being the their "Joseph and Feiss" brand. They tailor, hem and perma crease everything and the quality is outstanding. Using another vendor isn't the issue. It's the time one takes to make sure they match and look professional.

If your not on the 777 with Hong-Kong Layovers, then Tarpy Tailors at LAX on Sepulveda is the place (across from In-N-Out). The shop tailors/makes the uniform custom.....so fat/skinny/short/tall...you actually get something that looks good/fits right. Will you pay more than Cintas, or some other POS vendor's weak China quality?? SURE. But I will attest that they last much longer than any other cut-rate company sponsored supplier.

They have a LONG history with CAL as they used to be the uniform vendor under the Bob Six era.......I'm sure they'll continue to make whatever new uniform the "New" UAL decides to matriculate.

Hands down the BEST if your looking for a product with solid quality/long lasting wear in mind. Don't know if they will still do it, but the "old man" who used to be there would come to your hotel/airport and pick you up and take you to the shop for measurement/order while on LAX layovers....may still do that through the new owner??

$.02 cents....

BTW....how bout that video???

I agree. We are basically saying the same thing. UAL's vendor isn't the best either. And, there are a few places where folks do get a custom, high quality replacement that does match. There was a place when I was LAX based that made an exact match, same material, but higher quality. Price difference minimal. Went with them.

Frats,

Default Scope Buster bagtags on Skywest crew bags!

Is this the reason some CAL pilots have denied the jumpseat to Skywest pilots?
