Default FA Norma

From the United Daily:

Flight attendant reminisces on decades of top service in the skies
For decades, our flight attendants have been gracing the skies with their commitment to safety and customer service. This week, CBS News featured CO Flight Attendant Norma Heape in a segment. The piece highlights Norma’s 53-year career with the airline and her devotion to flying. Describing her career, Norma shares that she’s fortunate to have found something that she enjoys and that she has never lost the love of flying and serving people.

Isn't this the FA Norma that stuck her hand in the face of a 777 Captain and told him she was off duty and didn't have to listen to him at the hotel sign-in desk?

I don't think Norma was the one who did this.

You are correct. That was not Norma.

The news piece seemed to indicate that she wouldn't retire anytime soon, but I can't believe she will stay when she is #500 or so in the combined company. The only reason she stays now is because she doesn't like the #2 FA and won't give her the satisfaction of being #1 in the system.

She will not be anywhere close to being #500, more like #5. I still can't understand how the FAA thinks a person over 80 is fit enough to evacuate an airplane though, and UAL does have a few of those from what we've been told.

Tilton and Co hosed the UAL FA's so badly that many of them will have to fly until they die.

They are paid little. And their medical will cost them so much in retirement that they are forced to stay on to keep it. Not an ideal situation.

If she's really near 80, doesn't she qualify for medicare???? I thought the younguns get the duty of covering her medical care in retirement. Otherwise, where is my Medicare tax money going too???

Depending on how they integrate the FA seniority lists MAYBE she will be number 5 if ratios are used. UAL has many FAs "senior" to Norma's 1957 hire date....starting with 1949.

My thoughts have always been that Frank, er Jeff (I keep doing that! I'm sorry) is all about productivity. Having talked with a few UAL FAs on hotel vans recently many of their senior FAs don't work all that often. If the company insists on a minimum productivity level (i.e. say 1/2 months like job shares at CAL), some of the UAL FAs could be in for a rude awakening and might not be willing or able to perform that much work. Who knows?

Then again, I'm hoping our senior guys will take their retro checks and run!

Norma would be "oh so proud".....her own thread on APC.

Hitting an all-time low.
